Usually, involves the removing of overgrown branches from trees, shrubs and hedges
Tree Pruning and Trimming
Although used interchangeably Pruning and Trimming are two separate yet similar things. Pruning is generally associated with trees and shrubs. Pruning is beneficial to the tree in several ways when done properly. Aside from the obvious fact of making your tree more appealing to look at it also makes it healthier and possibly safer. By Pruning your trees, you promote new growth while also removing any possibly hazardous limbs. Tree Trimming however is usually associated with bushes and hedges and is more of an outer shaping for aesthetics.
Some Common Techniques
Cleaning - Removal of Dead, Dying, Diseased and Weak branches from the tree
Raising - Removing of the lower branches to make clearance
Reduction - Reducing the size of a tree's height and width taking the branch back to another sustainable branch. Unlike topping when a reduction is done correctly it helps maintain the tree's structure and shape.
Reducing Density 'Thinning' - Helps increase Light penetration and wind also can help with aesthetics
Most palms will have Fronds removed when they are dead or dying, inflorescences (flowering), or fruiting. The old, dead, lower fronds are usually all that is removed. Removing live fronds that stand at a Vertical angle less than 45° is not proven to help with reducing future maintenance.
