This one-hour course will introduce you to Google Keep, a versatile note-taking app that can significantly enhance your organization and research workflow. In this course, you will learn:

The basics of Google Keep:

Creating, editing, and formatting notes.

Adding checklists, images, and voice recordings to your notes.

Collaborating with others on shared notes.

Organizing your notes effectively:

Using labels and colors to categorize your notes/br> Creating and utilizing checklists for tasks and projects

Archiving and pinning important notes for easy access

Leveraging Keep for research:

Capturing web pages, articles, and research findings.

Google Apps for Education Fundamentals Course
February 10 - April 7

This course will give those just starting out with Google tools an overview of each Google App and how to use its basic features. You will come away with an awareness of how to use and leverage Google tools effectively in your classroom to improve workflow and engage students.The course consists of 15 modules, each focusing on a Google tool or group of apps. In each module, you will explore materials that will help you learn and perform the required skills for a particular Google product. At the end of each module you will be asked to take a quiz that will test your knowledge of fundamental product features and their classroom uses. 

Unleash Creativity: App Smashing Workshop for Teachers

This workshop is designed for K-12 teachers who want to explore the exciting possibilities of combining EdTech tools and emerging AI technologies in innovative ways. This book study explores Math Fact Fluency by Jennifer Bay-Williams and Gina King, emphasizing the core components of fluency and effective instructional techniques. Participants will use different digital tools to learn about the five fundamentals of fluency and how they help improve math skills. Those tools include Figma, podcasts, videos, Google Slides, Padlet, and more. Discussions will cover teaching and practicing foundational and derived facts through activities and games. Notice & Note - Fiction! A Book Study on Technology and "Note and Notice: Strategies for Close Reading" of Fiction in the Classroom

"Notice & Note will help you foster rigorous reading and high-level thinking while honoring your students' need to interact with what they read," writes Donalynn Miller. It's not the tools - it's what we do with them that counts to create deep understanding. In this book study, we will be using digital tools such as videos, discussion boards, VoiceThread, and Canva to enhance student learning. Inspire Your Readers...Be a Book Whisperer

Did you know that free voluntary reading is the largest predictor of student success? Using selected readings from Donalyn Miller's The Book Whisperer, we will explore ways to engage students in voluntary reading. We will examine how to motivate your readers using technology applications such as Google Forms, Google Slides, and WordArt. We will discuss the use of e-reading sites. We aim to meet participants wherever they are in their journey to inspire their students to love reading. Participants must have access to The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller. 

Let's Get it Together! Getting and Staying Organized with Google Tools
February 24  - April 7

In this 5 module course you will learn best practices for getting and staying organized within the Google Apps environment. Specifically we will be looking at Chrome, Drive, Gmail, Calendar, and Keep. Along the way you'll get many great tips for using these apps to increase your daily efficiency such as creating and organizing bookmarks, switching between Chrome profiles, creating a set of startup pages, organizing files and folders, tips for utilizing Drive features, setting up labels in Gmail, managing emails, using Gmail filters, using email templates, scheduling and snoozing emails, working with multiple calendars, setting calendar notifications and reminders, creating a booking calendar, and managing tasks (among other things).

In this course we will work together to share and create activities and strategies that you can use to make a plan for your first 6 weeks of school or for any time you feel your classroom needs a boost. Getting to the Heart of  Words with Orthographic Mapping
March 3 - March 30

This class will introduce teachers to orthographic mapping and its significant benefits in enhancing reading and spelling skills! This approach helps students connect sounds to letters, promoting better word recognition and fluency. Participants will also learn and practice ways to get to the heart of tricky words with permanently irregular spellings! We will explore articles, podcasts, technology tools, and additional resources. No book is required for this course, but recommended texts will be suggested. 

Google Forms: In and Out of the Classroom

This 15-hour online course introduces educators to Google Forms for classroom and personal use. Google Forms is a tool that is a part of the Google Workspace. It allows users to create easy-to-use web forms, that are linked to a Google Sheet. The course focus is on standards-based exercises that can be easily integrated and adapted for educator use across the curriculum. Topics covered may include: form creation and formatting, using templates, creating surveys, quizzes, exit tickets, sharing and collaborating, and using add-ons. 

Leading and Managing a Differentiated Classroom

Teachers will come away with ideas on how they can modify what they are currently doing to transform their reading instruction. Each chapter focuses on a critical area of foundational reading - from the most efficient ways to teach phonemic awareness and phonics to the most effective ways to boost comprehension. Tech for Teacher Wellness: Strategies for a Healthy Life and Sustainable Career Book Study

This asynchronous, five-week book study, based on Tech for Teacher Wellness by author Meredith Masar Boullion, provides tools to set healthy boundaries between your personal and professional life, use social media and collaborative tools positively to support your work and well-being, and foster wellness with students, parents, and colleagues through mindful technology use. Engage in reflective activities, choose from practical exercises, and create a personalized wellness plan-all at your own pace. Weekly live check-ins will be offered for those who wish to connect with other participants, discuss the readings, and receive additional support. Reading Above the Fray: Reliable, Research-Based Routines for Developing Decoding Skills - Book Study
March 10 - April 10

In this asynchronous book study, participants will find: Need-to-know essentials of how kids learn to read, Principles of high-quality foundational skills instruction and Teacher-approved instructional "swaps” to improve early reading instruction. Dr. Lindsey addresses content learning, culturally responsive practices, and the importance of engaging readers from the start. Each session dives deep into a specific app, offering beginner-friendly instruction and showcasing the latest updates. The Gift of Story: A Book Study

Your heart needs this book study! Master storyteller and book lover, John Schu, will guide us through the study of five affective elements of story - Story as Healer, Story as Inspiration, Story as Clarifier, Story as Compassion, and Story as Connector. Through the journey, you'll learn about great books and explore resources that will help you to create your reading community's story, changing readers, their hearts, and their world.  Participants should have access to the book The Gift of Story, by John Schu.

Flippity is a free website that allows you to turn Google spreadsheets into interactive digital manipulatives, activities, and tools. In this mini course you will be learning about Flippity and creating tools you can use in your classroom.

Start Here, Start Now: A Guide to Antibias and Antiracist Work in Your School Community, A Book Study

Start Here, Start Now addresses many of the questions and challenges educators have about getting started with anti bias and antiracist work, using a framework for tackling perceived barriers from a proactive stance. Liz Kleinrock answers the questions with personal stories, sample lessons, anchor charts, resources, conversation starters, extensive teacher and activist accounts, and more. We can break the habits that are holding us back from this work and be empowered to take the first step towards reimagining the possibilities of how antibias antiracist work can transform schools and the world at large. We must remind ourselves that what is right is often not what is easy, and we must continue to dream. Amidst the chaos, our path ahead is clear. This is our chance to dream big and build something better. Customization: The Secret Ingredient to Meeting Students Where They Are!

We live in a world of customization. Customized playlists, feeds, social media, and more allow us to define our lives and "live our preferences". Students growing up in this world might find our school environments jarring; they don't get to "like" their favorites, "dislike" what they want us to stop doing, and find themselves lumped into an "WE/US" that they didn't choose for themselves.This Blended Learning course will focus on the ways that AI and other digital tools allow us new opportunities to customize the learning process for our students, allowing them some agency and preference in their learning while still delivering standards and academic content.  

Creative Collaboration with AI

The description for Jen and I's course: Reignite your creative spark with this hands-on course designed to inspire and energize educators. Over the course of several weeks, participants will explore a variety of engaging projects, experiment with AI tools, and connect with peers in a supportive, collaborative environment. This course focuses on fostering personal creativity, encouraging self-expression, and finding a balance between AI collaboration and your own creativity.It will be a hybrid set up. We have three meeting planned. One on April 3rd at 3pm, one on May 15th at 3pm and one on June 5th at 3pm. We will also have asynchronous activities in between meeting being disrupted through an LMS.

NotebookLM: Data Analysis & Podcasts

This session will be a deep exploration of how NotebookLM can enhance your data analysis workflow and transform your findings into engaging podcasts. We will be discussing the capabilities of NotebookLM, including its ability to process and analyze various data formats, generate insightful visualizations, and even create interactive dashboards. We'll also delve into the power of NotebookLM's natural language processing features, which allow you to ask questions about your data and retrieve relevant information in a conversational manner. The session will also focus on how NotebookLM can be used to create compelling podcasts from your data analysis results. We'll explore techniques for structuring your podcast, crafting engaging narratives, and incorporating audio elements to enhance the listening experience.

Reach ALL Readers: Using the Science of Reading  to Transform Your Literacy Instruction  1st Edition (Book Study)

In this 15-hour asynchronous course, participants will explore the book Reach All Readers: Using the Science of Reading to Transform Your Literacy Instruction (1st Edition) by Anna Geiger. This book is full of research, evidenced based routines, activities, and practical tools for the classroom. The book is reader friendly and includes charts and graphic information to help you visualize key concepts. A Google Classroom link will be sent on or before the start date. This 15-hour online course introduces educators to Google Sheets. The focus is on standards-based exercises that can be easily integrated and adapted for educator use across the curriculum. Pixlr is a free online cloud-based image editing tool that runs on both the PC and Mac platforms. It's an HTML5-based app that closely resembles Photoshop. Images may be opened from your workstation or URL, as well as from Facebook, Instagram, and Google Photos. The course, focusing on Web image creation for the classroom, will include: interface navigation, selection tools and layers, manipulating your images, transforming and retouching photos, and filters.

Each One Teach One - High School Students Teaching Elementary Students
May 12 - June 9

With a diminishing number of students entering the education workforce, districts have had to start thinking of ways to encourage future generations to consider a career in education. One course that has proven to inspire adolescent students to pursue degrees in education is Each One Teach One. The format of the class includes time in the high school classroom learning about basic teaching principles and methodology, and then "teaching" students in one of the district elementary schools. The course has been beneficial to both the secondary and elementary students, as the high school students practice their leadership schools and the elementary students have role models to aspire to be. This course will lay out the groundwork necessary for creating a similar program in other districts and will provide ideas for coursework and methodology lesson plans. 

Strive for Five: A Science of Reading Book Study
May 12 - June 10

This course will be a book study of Strive for Five book - a Science of Reading book that focuses on the Strive for Five Framework. These responsive conversations start with what children say and continue as the teacher listens and responds over five turns - with the goal of stretching their talking and thinking, knowledge, vocabulary, reasoning, and other skills that underpin reading success. Participants will complete a digital notebook reflecting on what they've learned.  Participants must have access to the book Strive for Five Conversations by Sonia Cabell and Tricia Zucker.

In this hands-on session, you will learn how to easily meet NYS Computer Science & Digital Fluency standards with app development, using MAD-learn. MAD-learn is on the BOCES contract, EdLaw 2D compliant, and in use by districts all over the state. Using the six-step design thinking process, you will build your own app and see how this valuable experience intrinsically fosters both computer science and the necessary soft skills that are vital for today's students entering tomorrow's workforce.
