AI in Education

Below you will find a working list of our beliefs around the use of AI in Education. Since we are always learning this list will change and grow. 

• Integration with Daily Tech: AI will become a seamless part of the technology we use daily. Understanding its presence helps us adapt to the changes.

• Awareness is Key: Recognizing how technology currently influences our lives will assist us in navigating the integration of AI.  Understanding and utilizing AI technology can enhance students' digital literacy, teaching them how to navigate, analyze, and use information in a digital age.

• Uncertain Direction: The exact trajectory of AI's influence is unpredictable, but to be prepared, we and our students must be aware of what it is and how to use it. 

• Skill Development: Our students will require specific skills to handle the growing presence of AI in their lives.  To truly be future-ready, they must be taught both with  and about AI.

• Skill Acquisition Without AI: It's possible to equip students with the abilities to handle AI without directly using AI in instruction.  Educators must continually  re-envision teaching and evaluation methods to ensure students are adept at critical thinking and real-world application.

• AI as a Collaborative Tool: AI can function as both a collaborative partner in the creative process, as well as a tool to facilitate collaborative teaching and learning.    

• Teaching and Assessment: Human interaction and guidance is essential to the teaching and learning process.  As such, AI should be a supplement to, rather than a replacement for, interaction with human teachers.  AI can be a valuable tool for educators, assisting in curriculum planning, identifying areas for improvement, and freeing up time for more meaningful interactions with students.  

• Utilizing AI in Lessons: AI tools are most effective when teachers are skilled in integrating them into lessons, aligning AI with curriculum goals, and guiding students in their use.  When utilized to supplement the learning process, AI can be a powerful tool to increase student engagement by making learning more interactive, enjoyable, and relevant to students' interests.

• Ethical and Practical Considerations: When introducing AI in educational settings, discussions about privacy, safety, and appropriate usage are essential.

• Business & AI Integration: As businesses rapidly adopt AI, it's crucial for students to understand how to interact with these tools both efficiently and safely.

• Future-Ready Skills: Learning with and about AI is critical for developing students' future-ready skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, adaptability, and technological literacy.  These skills are essential to preparing them for the job market of the future.
