If you are currently in choir at the Jr High or High Schoo you may either do your audition in-person during your choir class or submit a video audition. If you are not currently in choir, you will be contacted to set up an audition. All auditions will need to be completed during the last two weeks of April.
If you would like to submit a video audition, click the link to audition. Submit Your Video HERE (coming soon)
Auditions must be completed and/or submitted no later than April 14th
If you are also auditioning for Show Choir, you do not need to do a separate audition for the concert choirs.
**There are only 2 parts to the audition for Cecilian Choir and Concert Choir.**
WHAT YOU NEED TO PREPARE
My Country 'Tis of Thee
Use the following practice tracks to learn the song (if you don't already know it). If you don't know what part to pick, just sing along with each one and pick the one you are most comfortable singing. Most girls sing Soprano or Alto, and most guys sing Tenor or Bass.
If you don't know the words, click here. I would also accept creative parodies, as long as they are sung in tune and school appropriate!
Song of your choice
Pick a song that you feel shows off your voice best and that you are comfortable singing and record yourself singing it. You only need to sing about 1 minute of a song, which is usually one verse followed by the chorus. This can either be a cappella or accompanied (there are TONS of karaoke tracks on youtube). We just want to hear your voice!

You must be a full-time Neosho High School student (at least 6 classes, or approved online classes) for the 2026-2027 school year and in good academic standing (passing all classes).
It it NOT a requirement to have prior singing experience to audition. We have a mix of students will all different backgrounds and prior experience in both choirs, and LOVE that our groups are so diverse!
RESULTS
Audition Results will be emailed to everyone who auditions by April 17th
Be confident, even while preparing for your audition! Even if you have to fake confidence, you will have a much stronger audition. It's totally normal to get nervous, but the more you make yourself act confident the more actual confidence you gain!
Don't be afraid to try out for the choir you want! There is no shame in trying out for something you want!
Practice the audition dance at home every day so you will be a comfortable as possible with the choreography.
Pick your solo song early so you can be prepared. Also make sure to pick something that really showcases your strengths!
Don't be afraid to ask for help during the clinics!
Be a performer! We want to see your personalities shine through in your auditions!
Don't be afraid to ask questions!!! Just email Mrs. Soule at soulemelanie@neoshosd.org or Mr. Benham at benhamgrant@neoshosd.org if you have questions at any time. We may not answer emails after 3pm until the next day, but we will get back to you as quickly as possible!
VOCAL Part 1: You will need to have a one minute solo (usually one verse and one chorus) prepared with either recorded or live accompaniment. Examples of appropriate accompaniment would be a karaoke track on YouTube, having someone play guitar, piano, or ukulele for you or playing one of these instruments yourself. You may sing in any language in which you are fluent. We would prefer that you do not sing along with the original artist. Make sure to pick a song you are comfortable singing that you feel showcases your strengths as a singer!
VOCAL Part 2: You will also need to learn your part for What About Us (sheet music and recordings are on website) and be prepared to sing it with the recording. This song does not have to be memorized, but you should be able to sing your part independently. There are practice tracks for all four voice parts and also audition. Don't be worried if you don't already know how to read sheet music! This is why we provide the practice tracks. If you aren't sure what part you should sing, sing along with each one and find the one you are most comfortable with. Most girls are either soprano or alto, and most guys are either tenor or bass. Practice with that track until you think you have it down. THEN, try singing your part with the recording labeled 'All Voices'. Finally, move on to the actual audition tracks and try to hold your part with the other voices on the recording. Just do the best you can! We aren't looking for perfect, just the best you can do on your own! Again, don't get discouraged if it takes you several tries to get it learned. We will also work on the song a little during the clinics and choir classes.
If you have any questions or need help, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Soule or Mr. Hudnut.

DANCE: Come to the clinics and use the videos to learn and get comfortable with the dance. It is much easier to learn choreography in person than from a video, but if you have conflicts with the clinics it doesn't mean you can't audition! You will just have to make sure to ask someone for help and work more on your own.
There is one video with counts (for practice), and one of the dance with music (for performance). Use the video with counts, pause it, rewind it, whatever works best for you to learn the dance. Don't get frustrated if it takes a few days! If you are struggling to learn from the videos, don't worry! Just do the best you can! We don't expect everyone to be perfect. Use the link for YouTube if you want to slow the video down.
