My name is Melissa Kmetz and I'm a third grade teacher at Lakeview Elementary School. I graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1999 and obtained a full academic scholarship to Youngstown State University. I graduated in May 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. In 2007, I obtained a Master of Science in Education with a specialty in Reading from Youngstown State University.
I began my teaching career in the Salem City School district where I taught kindergarten for one year and first grade for two years. I then accepted a teaching position here in Lakeview in the fall of 2006 and have been here ever since! This is my twelfth year teaching third grade and my fifteenth year teaching overall.
I strive to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students while sparking their interest and enthusiasm in learning. It is my goal to teach all students how to learn not just what to learn. This year though, the most important lessons learned in our classroom won't always be academic ones. It is incredibly important to me that students embrace kindness and compassion and strive to make the world a better place. I want them to learn they are never too young to make a difference in the lives of others. As Aristotle once said, "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all."
My name is Mrs. Lammers and I am very happy to be working with your child this year! I will tell you a little about myself. I have been teaching elementary students for 14 years. My favorite activity to do in school and at home is reading. We will be reading a lot this year!!!!! I have one daughter and she has grown to love books just as much as I do! I can't wait to get to know your child better throughout the year!
Hello! My name is Mrs. Emily Liplin. I began my teaching career here at Lakeview Elementary in 2006 in first grade.The following year I taught kindergarten. During that time I earned a Masters in Reading from Kent State University. The next five years I taught eighth grade reading. I was then welcomed back to the elementary to teach first grade. Finally, I was moved to teach third grade.
I am married with two wonderful and energetic children, Hank and Halle. We have three cats and one dog. Our whole family enjoys watching the Browns, Cavs, and Indians; as well as being outdoors.
I’m very excited to be meeting and teaching your child this year. We're going to have an awesome year!
My name is Mary Beth Townsend. I graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education (PreK-3). I also have a Reading Endorsement (K-12) from YSU. I began my teaching career at Children's Rainbow Preschool. I then taught second grade in Youngstown City Schools. Now, I am honored to be teaching at Lakeview where I initially taught Title I Reading/Math as well as First Grade. I live in Howland with my husband, Brian, also a teacher, our son, Caleb, who is currently attending college, and our two dogs, Albus and Luna. I enjoy reading, music, making jewelry, cardmaking, painting, writing/bullet journaling, spending time outside, and anything to do with technology. I am so excited to be part of the 3rd Grade Team here at Lakeview Elementary.
My name is Samantha Wilson and I will be your child’s third grade teacher. I’d like to start off by telling you a little about myself. I graduated from Lakeview in 2006. I am beyond thrilled to be able to teach in the same district where I went to school! After high school, I attended Clarion University of Pennsylvania, where I received my Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education K-6. I furthered my education by fulfilling the reading requirements set forth by the Third Grade Reading Guarantee as well as obtaining my Masters in Special Education from Western Governors University. After graduation, I accepted a teaching position at Lakeview and have been here ever since. I have taught both kindergarten and third grade. This is my fifth year teaching third grade.
My goal is to provide a learning environment that is fun, safe and full of experiences where students will not only advance academically but personally. It will be a year of challenges and growth that I believe will excite students about learning! In hopes of making a positive impact on my students, Maya Angelou said it best, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” There is so much to look forward to this school year and I think that with all of us working together we can make this a very positive experience. I look forward to working with you and your child to ensure a successful school year!
