Tag Football (Rugby league without tackling)
NAPIER SCHOOLS TAG FOOTBALL COMPETITION 2026 - YEAR 4-6
We have played Tag Football (basically rugby league without tackling) as a fun way to have interschool sport.
This year’s competition is due to commence in Week 2 Term 2.
When? Wednesday afternoons during Term 2 starting at 3.30pm
First round of games: Wednesday 29 th April (Week 2)
Final round – played on Wednesday 24 th June (Week 10)
Who can be involved? Any Napier schools, involving players up to Year 6
Where are games played? On school fields (schools may nominate another ‘home’ field if
their school grounds do not have the size to create a ground).
Any weight restrictions? No restrictions on weights for players
Initial information for games:
● 20 minutes each way
● Mouth guards recommended, but compulsory
● Bare feet – no shoes or boots
● No kicks at goal: tries only method of scoring (either 1 point or 2 points in the scoring
zone)
● Home team organises referee (can be shared half a game each)
