About care & connect
CARE & CONNECT is the class in which your son will spend the first 30 minutes of his day. During this time, through small groups, we focus on CONNECTing with one another, providing a time to show CARE, and CREATING the community we desire. Some activities your son might engage in include: small group discussion, FUTURE STORY PREP, team building, service opportunities, and celebrating each other's successes. This year we will continue to strengthen our tribe and work on the WE over ME narrative. Everyone in Merrifield’s Pride is a CAREtaker for their brothers and will continue to have each other’s backs.
About TNHS 101
This class is for upperclassmen students who have a desire to act as mentors to freshmen students at Thomas Nelson High School. This class focuses heavily on LEADERship dynamics with an emphasis on coaching, community service, and aiding peers behaviorally and academically. Mentors must be intrinsically motivated, be in good standing academically, and willing to engage in meaningful conversations. All freshmen students will have TNHS 101 embedded within they're daily schedule on Fridays in place of Health & PE.
WHAT MUST WE CREATE TOGETHER?
What I love most about education is the fluidity of each and every day. I never know what to expect other than walking into the building other than I will be surprised by the gifts of the students and LEADERs that make up our school community. The work of our students and LEADERs pushes me to LEARN and GROW as an educator and LEADER. It also forces me to CREATE meaningful experiences that allow those in the TNHS ecosystem to explore, refine, and expand their own gifts. This is truly a place where opportunity is around every corner and we must continue to tend to this through strategic CAREtaking systems, structures, and experiences. Yes.
