What is the TR Pride Coalition?

TR Pride Coalition, is a student-run organizations that unite LGBTQ+ and allied youth to build community and organize around issues impacting them in their schools and communities.

TR Pride Coalition has evolved beyond their traditional role to serve as safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth in middle schools and high schools, and have emerged as vehicles for deep social change related to racial, gender, and educational justice.

What is an Ally?

An ally is a person who is a member of the dominant group who works to end oppression in his or her own personal and professional life by supporting and advocating with the oppressed population.

We encourage all friends and family to become allies against anti-LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) language, bullying and harassment in our schools.

Mission Statement

Through education and advocacy, the TR Pride coalition seeks to make Roosevelt High School a more welcoming, safe, and inclusive campus for LGBTQ+ individuals, a term that includes but is not limited to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer individuals.

Core Values

The TR Pride Coalition operates by the following core values as a way of ensuring that top quality and support are provided to our membership and the community at large.

We:

Appreciate and Respect Diversity: Support the diverse needs of our community and all it stands for while respecting members’ privacy and confidentiality in a safe environment.

Are Community Centered: Develop and maintain communication channels and venues for our members to participate in as a way of ensuring their needs are met while maintaining a high level of member satisfaction.

Cultivate and Maintain Community Relationships: Connect, communicate, and collaborate with existing community organizations already providing services to our community. GSA will serve as a community link to refer members to existing programs and services as needed.

Educate and Empower: Provide members and the community at large with education, intervention, and support programs that encourage self-acceptance, nurturing, and understanding.
