Step 2: Parent/Guardian Instruction
Prior to getting a driver license, student must complete at least 40 hours of supervised driving. The majority of this supervised driving is done by the parent/guardian of the student
At least 10 of the 40 hours must be night-time driving
6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel instruction with a driver education instructor
Note: Range driving counts has half time (2 hours of range driving = 1 hour of Behind the Wheel instruction.

Step 4: Traffic Safety and Trends Exam
The Traffic Safety and Trends Exam is an online exam that all applicants applying for an original Class D license are required to pass. It is split into four sections. Each section must be completed with 100% accuracy and can be taken multiple times.
Step 5: Obtain Your Driver License
Student must be at least 16 years old and, if younger than 18, must have had a learners permit for at least 6 months
Schedule an appointment or walk-in at a Utah driver license office. The following steps are all completed as part of that visit.

Parent/legal guardian sign off on 40 hours of practice driving (10 hours at night)
Parent/legal guardian sign for financial responsibility (for age 17 and under)
