Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back to the new school year. We are so excited to begin another great year and work with your kids on their speech goals!  Mrs. Colby and Mrs. Metz will be the speech team this year at Mt. Loafer Elementary. 

How does speech therapy look here at Mt. Loafer?   Your child will be pulled to work on his/her speech and language goals multiple times each week during the school year. For example, one time a week will be a 15 min therapy session in the speech room and another time, possibly two, will be in the hall for 5 min therapy. Students will be pulled to work on their speech during independent time or silent read and will never miss core instruction, class activities or anytime the teacher feels it is not appropriate for the student to be pulled. Trying to juggle many schedules to fit speech therapy gets difficult, but we work together as a team here at Mt. Loafer. 

Please review over your child's most recent Speech IEP goal/s and talk with your student on how you can work on their speech goal/s together at home. As a parent, you can play a major role in your child’s speech and language development by helping them practice only 3-5 minutes each day.  When we all work as a team, your child is able to make the most progress and will pass off their speech goals quicker.  Your child will be given a paper copy of speech homework when he/she has mastered a particular speech level.  If you have lost their speech HW, then you can access a electronic copy here.  If you don't know what 'level' your child is working on, ask them or reach out to your Mt. Loafer speech team and we can help.
