Strategies you can use to help your student understand more of what they are reading.
- Start the book by making predictions about what might happen in the story.
Use information you have been given (title, pictures, etc.) and combine it with what you already know.
- Ask your student questions while reading
WH questions: Who, what, where, when, why
- Make comments while reading to direct your students attention to important details.
- After reading review what happened in the book. Have your student tell you the events in the order they happened.
- Make Connections!! Does the story remind you of another book, movie, or event in your life?
