I wanted to include some popular videos that blatantly demonstrate the sexism present in sport on many levels. From inappropriate interview questions to athletes themselves being disrespectful, sexism in sports is a deeply rooted issue.
This first video summarizes how inappropriate many questions asked to female athletes are by presenting them as if they were asked to male athletes. Male athletes are almost always asked about plays they made during a game or other questions regarding their sport while female athletes are often asked about their bodies, the food they eat to stay thin, and the clothes they wear.
This video is an excellent example of how male athletes can help break the gendered differences within sport by using their platforms. U.S Tennis player Andy Murray quickly corrected an interviewer who conveniently forgot the Williams sisters, some of the best tennis players of all time, when asking a question about breaking U.S. tennis records.
In this video, Cam Newton laughs at female reporter who asks a question about another player, similar to any question a male reporter would ask. He even goes as far as to comment how it is "funny to hear a female" talking about sport. This demonstrates how sexism in sport can include the players, coaches, and staff as well.
This last video is an ad campaign meant to empower women. I found it interesting that the younger girls threw as they normally would while the other women played into the stereotype of "throwing like a girl." This shows how sexism is taught and can be adopted even by the people it hurts the worst.
