Education Through Field Studies, Recreation, and Service
Education Through Field Studies, Recreation, and Service
The Kingdom Course is a program that allows freshman and Sophomore students to venture outside the traditional classroom by offering extensive external learning opportunities. Our focus is on experiential, service, and project-based learning that fosters student-centered, hands-on projects. Students are offered multiple ways to demonstrate learning in core areas, as well as in transferable skills and habits of work while learning about all the Northeast Kingdom offers.
Kingdom Course students explore their interests while exploring the Northeast Kingdom and beyond. Field Study outings help to introduce students to people, places, and experiences they otherwise may not have access to. Students are introduced to job opportunities and learning communities in our area, and beyond, as well as lifelong recreation and personal wellness. Core standards are reached in innovative ways and assessed by North Country Union School’s school-wide scoring criteria. Kingdom Course students will complete a resume and cover letter before completing the program. Science, Language Arts, Physical Education, and Community Service Learning curricula are geared toward student interest and project completion. The students communicate their efforts via a student-written Blog. The year culminates with a student-generated project and public exhibition.
Any Freshman or Sophomore who likes to be outside has the ability to learn in a hands-on way and complete their personalized learning plan.
