Presentation of Learning!
Our January presentation of learning was an enormous success! Students from 4th through 8th grades presented an incredible array of learning and thinking. There were slideshows, movies, models, essays, and posters. There was live music. There were even robots! Students talked about collaboration, problem solving, and independent learning. We were pleased to see so many parents and community members present to witness all of the growth that CES students have been accomplishing. Those who attended heard students talking about everything from civic planning, sheep farming, and endangered species to civil rights, internal combustion engines, and the human brain. We are truly proud of the diversity of interests that our students have, and they were certainly on full display at our POL. We expect to have at least one more presentation of learning later this year, so stay tuned. You won't want to miss it!
Charleston Takes the 'Golden Flannel' Fundraising Award!
CES students and families really stepped up for Flannel Friday. Our students helped raise almost $230 dollars for community members in need. CES won the Golden Flannel award for raising the most money per student. Great job, everyone! As a whole district, NCSU schools raised over $2200 for local food shelves! We are proud of the contribution that CES was able to make. Our students and families are caring, compassionate, and generous.
NCUHS Band Visit CES!
This past week, the NCUHS band braved some pretty nasty weather to visit Charleston Elementary and put on a concert for us! Charleston students were joined by 5th through 8th graders from Brighton Elementary, and the NCUHS band played a fun and interesting selection of music while teaching students about different instruments. Students were exposed to some less common instruments such as french horn and bassoon, and they were able to experience a huge diversity of percussion sounds and instruments. Perhaps the best part was seeing two CES alumni in the band--Marelle Mosher on clarinet and Gabe Lepine playing percussion!
