The Sustainable Transportation Education Program Electric Dragster (STEP E-Dragster) Challenge is a pre-college program with the FREEDM Systems Center, Duke Progress Energy, and North Carolina State University that educates students on sustainable transportation and the shift towards electrification of transportation. STEP provides teacher training and curricula on electric vehicles, smart grid technologies, alternative fuels, wide bandgap semiconductors, and careers related to science, technology engineering, and mathematics (STEM) while using real-world problem-solving applications to power, energy, and transportation infrastructure. This STEM curriculum includes skill development in critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and additional elements of technological and energy literacy.
