Progress in Paper Physics Seminar 2021

For more than forty years, paper physicists from around the globe have convened to share their research results for investigations that are in progress and near completion. The purpose of the PPPS series is to gather in the years between the major conferences sponsored by the Fundamental Research Committee and TAPPI. Although the pandemic has disrupted the traditional alternating sequence of these technical meetings, the International Paper Physics Community feels it important to hold a second PPPS this year to maintain our community and to highlight the work of the next generation of scientists in this field. To encourage attendance, the meeting registration cost will be minimal.

Progress in Paper Physics seminars seek to present the latest advances in the field of paper physics. In many cases the work is not fully developed, so that the audience can provide positive input as the research is brought to fruition. In recent years, the scope of this series has been broadened to include emerging viewpoints in paper science beyond what is traditionally considered paper physics. Subjects to be considered for acceptance include:

– All branches of paper physics

– End use performance of paper and paper products

– New materials and products

– Manufacturing process

– Nanotechnology applications in paper engineering

The selection of co-locating the PPPS:2021 meeting with the TAPPICon Live event in October adds the additional benefit to offer a hybrid event with elements of both live and remote participation. We are pleased to invite the submission of papers for presentations of 20 min in length either on-site or remotely. A virtual poster session is also under consideration, so poster submissions are also invited. The organizing committee enthusiastically encourages submissions from scientists and graduate students who are in the beginning of their careers. Please indicate on the submission form whether an oral presentation or a poster is preferred.

Submit a short abstract (max. 150 words) of your presentation or poster by August 30, 2021 using the form at the following link:

Purpose

This meeting is intended to present the latest research in the field of paper physics. We welcome a diverse field of presentations in order to stimulate creative thinking the field of paper physics.

What we've done

The international paper physics community is one of the long standing scientific communities in the paper industry. This group of scientists have developed numerous scientific theories to predict the behavior of stochastic fibrous networks.
