The requirements for the Meteorology minor are shown at: http://catalog.ncsu.edu/undergraduate/sciences/marine-earth-atmospheric-sciences/meteorology-minor/.
Important degree audit note: The minor requirements (as shown at the link above) include "Select 4 credit hours from among MEA courses in Atmospheric Sciences at the 300-level or higher". Unfortunately, the Degree Audit system in My Pack Portal does not differentiate between meteorology courses and other MEA courses. It will mistakenly allow students to add geology or marine science MEA300+ courses to their degree audit, but we will not clear these courses as counting toward the requirement. Please check with Dr. Parker (Meteorology Minor coordinator) if you have questions or concerns about which upper division MEA courses will satisfy this requirement.
Getting started: In order to qualify for the Meteorology minor, students must have grades of C or better in MA141 and PY205. There is not a special procedure for beginning the minor: students simply declare and begin taking the sequence of courses. Any student from any department can sign up for MEA courses (none of them are restricted to majors) as long as they have met the pre-requisites. The first course for the minor is MEA215, so students should ensure that they meet the pre-requisites for it before considering the minor. In turn, MEA215 is a pre-req or co-req for every other course in the minor. MEA215 is offered once per year in the Spring semester.
Non-meteorology pre-requisites: Many of the courses used to satisfy the minor have prereqs from outside of our department. Specifically, in order to complete the minor, students will need to also complete the following non-MEA courses: MA116, MA141, MA241, MA242, and PY205. In addition, depending upon the MEA300/400-level courses chosen as electives, there may be additional prereqs in Chemistry.
In order to declare the minor: Students can declare a minor using the Change of Degree Application (CODA) on My Pack Portal. Additional instructions can be found here: https://studentservices.ncsu.edu/your-degree/coda-home/add-a-minor/
