This program brings together undergraduate students, teachers, and industry mentors to explore how Generative AI can support K–12 learning. You will work on real-world challenges and contribute to the development of MerryQuery, an AI-powered educational platform.
Provide undergraduate students and teachers with research experience in AI and computing by immersing them in the activities and culture of a research lab.
Increase participants’ understanding of AI and of research methodologies in computing.
Increase participants’ awareness of the broad array of AI and computing research disciplines.
Provide participants with multiple points of support from a diverse group of peers and faculty mentors.
Increase participants’ understanding of the process of applying to, preparing for, and succeeding in AI and computing doctoral programs.
Work with active, experienced research faculty on emerging AI and computing research topics.
Receive a stipend, housing, and parking on campus.
Participants are eligible to apply for funding to travel to a conference.
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
Applicant must be and remain a teacher or an undergraduate student in good standing.
Applicant must plan to complete a degree program or teach in a classroom.
Teachers and Students must participate in lab activities as described in the memorandum of understanding.
Teachers and Students must attend weekly meetings.
Teachers and Students must prepare and submit a written report of the work done.
Teachers and Students must give an oral presentation of work performed at the RET/REU Site.
Teachers and Students may participate in this program at NC State for up to two summers.
High school graduates who have been accepted at an undergraduate institution but who have not yet started their undergraduate studies are also eligible to participate.
