Goals

• Provide undergraduate students and teachers with research experience in AI and computing by immersing them in the activities and culture of a research lab.

• Increase participants’ understanding of AI and of research methodologies in computing.

• Increase participants’ awareness of the broad array of AI and computing research disciplines.

• Provide participants with multiple points of support from a diverse group of peers and faculty mentors.

• Increase participants’ understanding of the process of applying to, preparing for, and succeeding in AI and computing doctoral programs.

Benefits

• Work with active, experienced research faculty on emerging AI and computing research topics.

• Participants are eligible to apply for funding to travel to a conference.

Requirements

• Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States.

• Applicant must be and remain a teacher or an undergraduate student in good standing.

• Applicant must plan to complete a degree program or teach in a classroom.

• Teachers and Students must participate in lab activities as described in the memorandum of understanding. 

• Teachers and Students must attend weekly meetings.

• Teachers and Students must prepare and submit a written report of the work done.

• Teachers and Students must give an oral presentation of work performed at the RET/REU Site.

• Teachers and Students may participate in this program at NC State for up to two summers. 

• High school graduates who have been accepted at an undergraduate institution but who have not yet started their undergraduate studies are also eligible to participate.
