The Bioanalytical & Toxicoproteomics Laboratory

Welcome to the Bereman Laboratory! We are located in the Department of Biological Sciences at NC State University. Our research is focused on the development of new mass spectrometry based technologies and their applications in the diagnosis, prognosis, and elucidation of disease mechanisms in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

ALS is a deadly neurodegenerative disease that often strikes seemingly healthy middle aged individuals at random. Even more disturbing and despite its first description over 150 years ago there is no treatment that has any significant effect on disease progression. Individuals succumb on average 2-3 years after diagnosis with some passing in only a few months. Every 4 mins someone is diagnosed and dies of ALS in the world. Enough is enough !!
