Registration for all accepted students is $40 and covers a light breakfast, full lunch and dinner, and a festival T-Shirt. Directors should register students by January 10th to secure a spot.

PREVIOUS YEARS: 2024 District Honor band
OMEA District 13 high school musicians are invited to participate in the 2025 High School Honor Band at Adrienne C. Nelson High School in Happy Valley, Oregon. The festival brings together high school instrumentalists from all over the region. Participants in the festival spend two days on campus interacting with district 13 music faculty, a renowned clinicians, and current District 13 music students. One day of rehearsals will culminate in a free public concert featuring the Honor Band and the Honor choir in the Nelson Auditorium.

Derek Bannasch joined the faculty of the Montana State University School of Music in 2021, where he teaches applied bassoon, chamber music, courses in music education, and conducts the MSU University Band. An active participant in Montana’s thriving musical culture, he performs regularly with the Bozeman, Helena, and Billings Symphony Orchestras, as well as the 406 Winds, MSU’s woodwind quintet in-residence.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, he retired from the Army Bands in 2021 after performing throughout Europe and the United States with Army concert bands and chamber ensembles. From 2015-2019 he served as Instructor of Bassoon at the U.S. Army School of Music, where he was awarded the U.S. Army Master Instructor Badge – the Army’s highest award for excellence in teaching. A long-time member of the International Double Reed Society, he has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at numerous IDRS conferences. He regularly guest conducts the Bozeman City Band, the MSU Wind Symphony, and is a frequent clinician for middle and high school bands throughout Montana. Prior to the Army, he also taught general and instrumental music in public schools in Michigan and Georgia.
A native of Clarkston, Michigan, he holds bachelor's, master's, and deoctoral degrees in bassoon performance and music education from Central Michigan University, the University of Michigan; and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, respectively. He lives in Bozeman, Montana with his wife Jessica, their four sons, and their yellow Labrador retriever named Melody.
