Create pre-assigned partners. No wasting time waiting for students to find partners, they are pre-done, just tell them which partner they are working with.
Let's Make a Date, is just like clock partners, but instead of hours on a clock, list out date locations / ideas. Here are a few examples.
Go for a Walk
Go to the Movies
Go to the football game
Get a manicure/pedicure
Appropriate for all subject areas
Generate the questions and give the students a list of the possible answers. Ask everyone to fill in the board from the possible answer list.
Start asking questions, see who win!
White Boards
Never underestimate the power of a simple little white board.
Appropriate for individual or partner/team work.
Ask a question, have students write their response, then hold it up. Teachers can view all students work with a simple glance around the room. Easy to provide feedback and words of encouragement to everyone in less than a minute.
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers make GREAT erasers for white boards. I usually cute each Magic Eraser into 4-pieces; it was the perfect size and really cleaned the boards.
Vocabulary Partners
This can be done in MANY ways. Here are a 2-options.
Pair up students. One person has their back to the board, the other person is facing the board. Put a vocabulary word on the screen. The person facing the board has 15-30 seconds (adjust as appropriate) to get their partner to say the word/phrase; only using clues and definitions. To make this a competition, those who succeed, move onto the next level, those who don't sit down. See who wins. Once the round is done, start over again, but reverse rolls.
Pair up students (or groups of 3). Give one person in the group a list of 5-10 vocabulary words. They have to use descriptions and definitions to get their partner to say the word. Once they have finish, give the other partner a new list and reverse rolls.
