Advanced Computer Applications

Students will understand databases, database terminology, and the process of creating a database. This content knowledge will be mastered through differentiated activities, multiple means of assessment, and enhancement of prior knowledge. Students will be encouraged to make real-world connections and explore how mastery of computer applications can help to shape one’s future.
Career & College Computer Applications

Students will be exposed to and guided in the use of computers as a tool in the workplace, school, and personal environments, while also developing collaborative and critical thinking skills through a variety of project formats. This course gives students the opportunity to learn about and experiment with a number of computer programs. Students will learn how to type with a concentration on word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications, as well as how to access the Internet. As they apply the design process to real-world projects, students will cooperate and develop critical thinking abilities.
Financial Literacy

Introduces and educates students through the principles of financial management. Income and Career Exploration, Banking and Investing, Checking Account Management, Insurance, Identity Theft, Credit, Budgeting and College Financing, and Student Loan Management are some of the topics covered. While learning the practical life skills of maintaining their financial lives, students work in a number of online forms and are exposed to a variety of current event themes.
Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship guides students through the steps of starting, running, and maintaining a business. The course teaches students how to create and operate a business in order to prepare them for college and careers. Students learn how and why firms make decisions by putting themselves in the shoes of a business owner. Students will learn about economics, financial accounting, business ethics, marketing, and product planning through key terminology, communication activities, and chapter examinations. A study of the theory and practice of entrepreneurship including entrepreneurial opportunities, developing the business plan, franchising, small business marketing, managing small business operations, and financial management. Students will be introduced to the skills necessary to become entrepreneurs by reviewing the attitudes, characteristics, and techniques of successful entrepreneurs. Students will get an understanding foundation to Entrepreneurship by the introduction of business plans, budgeting, products, and consumers as they begin a year-long group project for their business idea. This is the planning and preparation phase of starting a business. In the management phase, the student brings the vision of the new business to life. The student will get a solid understanding of the operations of a business. This includes Leadership, communication, management types, human resources, and product development. Marketing concepts will be introduced. Students will be able to identify the growth strategies and exit strategies of a business. The course will conclude with a business plan for a business that the student would intend to start a business.
Marketing

Students will explore the field of marketing and the development and creation of a business. This course will focus on the creation of a business strategy, market research, and the creation of a marketing plan. Students will use design principles to produce marketing and promotional materials for a company.
Investing
Prerequisite(s): Career & College Computer Applications
There are four types of traders: day traders, stock brokers, personal investors, and financial advisors. Investing is a great resource for the future, and it can help students prepare for important financial decisions. This course cover's everything from investment basics to techniques, as well as a semester-long group project that would allow students to design a fictitious portfolio, invest fictitious money, and ultimately demonstrate the value of smart investing.
Character Development

The purpose of the Character Development program in North Arlington High school is to provide guidance and support for underclassmen. Peer-to-peer relationships, built on mutual respect and genuine investment, will not only serve students in their academic endeavors, but will provide a foundation of interpersonal relationships needed to be successful in the future.
Peer Leadership
Prerequisite(s): Character Development and/or Teacher Recommendation
This class is designed to support and develop the leaders of tomorrow. Building on the lessons taught in Character Development, this course promotes the use of outreach and taps into our student leaders to address school-based and community problems proactively.
Intro to Statistics
Prerequisite(s): Algebra 2, English 2
Intro to Statistics is an introductory course in descriptive statistics and statistical inference including the study of probability. Topics of study include summary statistics, graphical displays of data, sampling, probability distributions, confidence intervals and significance testing. Practical problems involving correlation, linear regression, surveys, experiments and hypothesis testing are also included. There will be an emphasis on developing a critical perspective of data and statistical analyses as they are presented in popular culture. Problem-solving and reasoning abilities will be enhanced. Graphing calculator, written and oral communication and collaboration skills will be employed in solving real-life problems.
