Run a School-based Activity

Lessons:

1. Travel the Boundary of the area Boundary run. Return to the teacher on a signal Gathering. Add an extension like tag game.

2. Use checkpoints from Animal-O. Meet the animals, move or talk like the animal, find them within the boundary, tell a story and when the next animal is mentioned, go to that animal, visit animals named by the teacher. Student can say how many they want to visit: 1, 2 or 3.

3. Use a clue sheet to find checkpoints in order. Animal-O 

4. Find checkpoints within a defined boundary Explore and find

5. Create, navigate and draw a map of an Obstacle Course. Put a special mystery item at the end of the obstacle course. 

6. Learn how to relate to a map of the surroundings Map Maker

Lessons:

3. Use checkpoints from Animal-O. Use a picture map or have the kids make a picture, and mark locations of animal(s) in it, to visit, in order. Draw a very simplified map of the main areas of the space, and name them. 

4. Use a simple map to do progressively harder courses Geometric-O Start with Animal-O on that same layout. Add extension like to draw a picture of where the animals are on the map.

5. Understand map symbols and the features they represent Symbol-O. Walk around, matching real-world features with map symbols Symbol Relay. Learn how to relate to a map of the surroundings Map Walk

6. Complete a course using an orienteering map Point-to-Point Orienteering Course

Lessons:

1. Use a clue sheet to find checkpoints in order. Animal-O Add an extension activity like map drawing.

2. Use a simple map to do progressively harder courses Geometric-O 

3. Map interpretation / Map Walk / map orienting relay

4. Visit the checkpoints shown on your map Score-O. Visit only the checkpoints shown on your map Poison-O 

5. Reverse Score-O (draw where the markers are, on the map)

6. Complete a course using an orienteering map Point-to-Point Orienteering Course, and Relay Race
