Hello! My name is Danielle DeSimone Hinote. I was raised in Brewster since the age of four, came up through Brewster Elementary (before it was Stony Brook), NRMS, and graduated from Nauset Regional High in 2001. I attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, with the intention of studying biology and planned to follow it with veterinary school. As life experiences swayed me this way and that, I graduated in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in psychology/special education. I fell deeply and swiftly in love with special education, and although I had worked in the field in many capacities (tutor, education assistant, substitute teacher both regular and special, job coach), I always had a sneaking suspicion I hadn't yet found my true passion, my niche. A good friend of my mother's, and former Nauset OT, first introduced me to the profession when I was still in college. After graduating, I took one year off school to decide the direction my life would go in, working as an education assistant at Chatham High School. During that year, I applied and was accepted to Tufts University to their post graduate OT program. With relatively minimal actual knowledge in hindsight of what OT truly is, I arrived to Tufts with no idea what I was in for, and within days felt truly grateful that the perfect profession for me seemed to have sought me out!
After receiving a masters of science in Occupational Therapy, I moved on to fieldwork, the first being in a local rehab, and the second being here in the Nauset School district. Under three separate OT's I learned all about school-based OT at each of the five Nauset Elementary Schools. When it came time to finally get my first OT job, I decided to challenge myself and work in a setting truly outside my comfort zone, a hospital! I spent my formative OT years working at Spaulding Hospital Cambridge on the brain injury unit, before unexpected life events drew me back to my beloved Cape Cod (though I have never looked back!). I spent the next three years working at a rehab in Falmouth, with my eyes constantly peeled in hopes of a school position opening. When a position opened in Orleans in 2016, I sprung to the opportunity. I am now the OT at Orleans Elementary and Wellfleet Elementary Schools, and I couldn't be happier to be part of two such wonderful teaching families.
Currently, I live in Harwich with my husband Brad, our children Vinny and Merry, and our dog Ron. I am an avid lover of all animals (hence the initial plan for vet school). I enjoy music of all kinds and am constantly looking for new forms to be moved by. I play the violin fairly well, I can get by on the ukulele, and I play the guitar pretty poorly. I am a loyal beachgoer with a group of good friends, and dream of beach days all school-year long! I enjoy watching sports, particularly hockey, baseball, basketball, soccer, and gymnastics. Growing up, I stayed very active, participating in local rec sports like softball and soccer, joining school clubs like art and drama, and spent a good deal of my time at the gymnasium practicing gymnastics. I am interested in astronomy, and environmental conservation. I love to read about different cultures across the world. I love going to the movies, particularly the drive-in, and my favorites movies tend to involve science fiction and adventure. My favorite colors are greens and blues. My favorite foods are pizza, popcorn, and pasta. I'm a big kid at heart, and I love having a job that lets me help children learn through play!
