Physical Therapy Internship in Singapore
Abstract:
The goal of the internship was to aid the principal physiotherapist and to learn the various techniques and treatments used to help a patient recover from an injury or surgical procedure. Administrative tasks included phone calls, scheduling patient appointments, collecting payments, helping with a location move, and making an informative poster explaining the different treatments the clinic provided. Back-office responsibilities included providing ultrasounds, assisting the physical therapist in manual therapy, assisting in performing shockwave therapy, and placing electrodes and adjusting settings for electrotherapy. Additionally, I was entrusted to oversee some of the patients' exercises in the gym, guiding them through their prescribed program and correcting posture or demonstrating when needed. Twice a week, I would handle a patient's weight loss sessions, directing them through a variety of strength and cardio exercises. The outcome of the internship was a deeper appreciation for the rehabilitation process, and the development of valuable clinical and interpersonal skills.
