Title of Work:
Environmental, Social, and Governance in Renewable Energy in Southeast Asia
Abstract:
From February to June 2023, I completed an internship with Entoria Energy in Singapore. Throughout working in Singapore, I achieved my goals of gaining insight into the environmental industry, experiencing another work culture, and improving my professional and skill development. As a dynamic and expanding enterprise, Entoria Energy is a global privately held developer, investor, and operator of renewable energy solutions that specializes in solar and energy storage projects. Originally as an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) intern, tasks centralized on the social aspect of investing in renewables. Collecting, reviewing, and analyzing labor laws and safety procedures for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), I produced case studies to inform their investors’ decision making. Shifting to the business development sector, my tasks evolved in collaborating with coworkers to amend client proposals, financial models, and project information memorandums (PIM). This information equips clients with extensive data regarding their investments in renewables. By participating in the social and business development side, I realized the potential in the growing market for renewable energy. Without transitioning to fossil fuels, the symptoms of climate change become permanent and irreversible. It is essential that this demand and market keeps growing for cleaner energy.

Elevator Pitch Transcript:
Hello my name is Haley Brown. For my language, I studied Mandarin. My subject major is Environmental and Sustainability Studies. In fall of 2022, I studied abroad in Hong Kong at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) with six other peers in the IGP program. It was in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong, which is one of the more residential sectors of the islands.
Starting in late August, I enrolled in four classes, three for my comparative culture studies degree and one for my environmental degree. The set up was different to what I experienced at NAU. The classes were around two hours long and occurred once a week. Additionally, the curricula centralized on final projects and exams in comparison to assignments like most classes at NAU. As my classes were coming to an end, I prepared to start my internship in Singapore.
All six of us were interviewed for positions through Absolute Internship. After interviewing about three positions, I chose Entoria Energy. Entoria Energy is a global privately held developer, investor, and operator of renewable energy solutions that specializes in solar and energy storage projects. However I was not able to present this information as my mentor transitioned out of the company. As such I shifted to the business development sector, my tasks evolved to collaborating with coworkers to amend client proposals, financial models, and project information memorandums (PIM). I certainly felt as all interns do, stressed and have no idea of anything they’re doing. As my internship continued, I managed to get the hang of it. I was introduced to a whole sector I had no idea of. As such, I realized the potential in the growing market for renewable energy. This provides radical hope to the ever-degrading news of the environmental movement. Without this experience, I would not be exploring careers or post undergraduate studies and would not have gained insane insight about myself and the world around me.
