Watch this video for an overview of the requirements to graduate from NAU with Honors.
There are 27 total units that you need to complete for the Honors College. This does NOT necessarily mean an additional 27 units; most requirements are built into existing major or liberal study requirements.

Internships
Study Abroad
Independent Study
Contracting a Major Capstone course
You will also need 11 units of Honors electives to reach the 27 total units. Here are a few ways to earn this credit:
Additional HON prefix courses
(for example, HON 100)
-H courses
(for example, BIO 181H)
Contracting non-Honors courses for Honors credit
Available for 300 or 400 level classes only
Contracting classes is something you typically won't begin until sophomore or junior year, but we want you to be aware that this is a great way to earn Honors elective credit without adding extra classes to your degree plan.
As an Honors student, you will also need to satisfy the Honors Proficiency Requirements.
Option 1: complete math classes through MAT 137 (Calculus II)
Option 2: demonstrate proficiency in a second language through the 102 level
Some majors may already require higher math, such as Engineering degrees, while others may already require a language through the 102 level, such as English degrees. Check your major requirements to see what would be the best choice for you!
Explorations in the Honors College are exciting learning opportunities that occur outside of the classroom.
You sign up for Explorations and submit your reflections through your "Explorations" course shell in BlackBoard Learn.
You will need to complete 5 Explorations before you graduate. 2 Explorations must be completed before you can enroll in an HON 39X course.
To graduate with Honors distinction, you must have a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA.
If you are worried that you will not meet the GPA requirements to stay in Honors, please reach out to your Academic Advisor as soon as possible to develop a plan to get back on track!
