Homework

Daily Homework will be as follows:

  • At least 20 minutes of sustained reading.
  • One Math Page.
  • Math facts practice.
    • Multiplication and division facts (0-12)
    • Addition and Subtraction facts (double digit addition/subtraction, doubles-25+25, 150+150, etc.)

*All math pages are due Friday but can be collected daily. Reading can be logged on the Reading Challenge page. Homework is graded for completion not accuracy.

Occasional Homework:

  • Home/School Connections-One page worksheet intended to be an opportunity for your child to teach you something or have a conversation with you regarding an area of study we are discussing in class.
  • Projects-Class plays, personal interest projects, end of unit projects, etc. that may need additional time in order to complete.

*Due date for occasional homework will be labeled or communicated to your child when assigned.

Homework Simplified Grading Marks:

  • Star: 100% correct.
  • Check-plus: 1 or 2 questions missed but still demonstrates understanding of concepts.
  • Check: Using strategies that we have learned in class but not quite demonstrating understanding.
  • Check-minus: Homework was turned in uncompleted or demonstrates a complete lack of understanding.

The purpose of homework in fourth grade is to:

  • Develop a routine at home for completing homework regularly.
  • Allow for practice of skills after an extended amount of time has elapsed since initial instruction.
  • Give students an opportunity to independently assess their understanding of concepts taught in class.
    • If your child does not know how to answer a problem please encourage them to write a question mark with a small written statement on what parts they find confusing.

Homework Planner:

Your child will complete a homework planner daily. They will write down what is due in their take-home folder everyday. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their homework by managing and tracking their required assignments. They can use this page to communicate their homework with you and remember what they take home each day.

*Disclaimer: Fourth graders who are not naturally organized can find this to be difficult! Please be patient with your child while they work to get into the habit of being independent learners.

Homework Continued:

  • Additional homework is available on our weekly updates.
  • I believe quality family time, extracurricular activities, and social interactions with peers are more valuable to your child's education at this developmental age than homework.
