One option to build community is having a website as your go-to resource in which information can be housed. The site should be rather static as it is not as easy to modify or add new material. Things I like to put on my site:
- Resources that won't change as the year progresses (class expectations, unit goals, helpful resources)
- Information about me
- Professional Development work (presentations, resources for other teachers)
- Extension work that students can access at any time if they are done with other tasks
Eric Curts is a Google guru. This is a long webinar but worth the watch if you would like support building a site in the new google sites. I recommend opening up the webinar on one device and creating your new site on another while you are watching. Don't forget the power of the pause button!
