Meet Eva Pauthner, a foreign exchange student from Regensburg, Germany and Bayern, Germany. She is a senior at NCHS. She decided to become an exchange student because of how popular the program is. Along with the fact that it has always been her dream to take an exchange year. Because the U.S. is so popular, she decided to spend her year in the states. Eva was excited for the entire experience, along with making new friends. When Eva noted the biggest difference between Germany and the U.S. she said, “The biggest difference is that everyone here drives a car, in Germany everyone travels by bicycle. In Germany, it took me thirty minutes to get to school everyday. But, in America, it only takes me two minutes to drive to school!” Eva also explained that her school in Germany is different from NCHS. In Germany she got out of school at one o’clock every day, and her teachers traveled from room to room instead of the students moving. Eva was enrolled in sixteen classes in Germany, but they did not have the same classes each day. Eva says that her favorite part about her exchange experience so far is getting to spend time with her host family. She also really enjoys being a part of the cheerleading team at NCHS. Eva said, “We do not have cheerleading in Germany, but it is very popular because of the movies.” She decided to join the team because she thought it would be a great experience to share with her friends and family in Germany. Her family includes her mother and father, and her younger sister. Eva shared that her favorite place to eat in the U.S. is Taco Bell. Some of her hobbies include reading, going for walks, and enjoying nature. Eva is loving NCHS, if you see her around, make sure to give her a smile and a wave!

National Honor Society is hosting a Penny War Tuesday, October 15 - Wednesday, October 23 in all first hour classrooms. All funds raised will be donated to help the students in Ashville, North Carolina.
How can your first hour bring penny war DOMINATION to NCHS? Here are the rules:
Only add coins to your first hour containers. All coins are worth positive points.
Bills are negative points. Find another first hour class and add bills of any monetary value to their containers to bring down the points of that class.
If you bring in rolls of coins, do not unroll them.
Be sure not to hide your container. It must be in plain sight.
Student Council has also made a pledge to match the total amount raised, so let's raise as much as we can to double our donation. Clean out your center console, check the couch cushions, and use your piggy bank for good this week to help the victims of Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

NCHS Hornets are not scared of a little challenge, and the faculty, students, and staff were definitely challenged when the 2024 - 2025 school year began on Monday, August 12 and continued for the entire week. In addition to a return to the routine of school and classes, NCHS students attended various activities on the first few days of school. In those activity sessions, students were encouraged to be active learners, to find and join NCHS clubs, teams, and organizations; and to be safe when traveling on the bus. (The bus evacuation drill is everyone's favorite...said no one ever!)

The 2024 - 2025 school year began on Friday, August 9 when 68 excited (and slightly nervous) freshmen and their senior peer mentors attended Freshmen Academy. This event is designed to acquaint students with NCHS, alleviate first day jitters, and encourage them to think about ways in which they can be successful during their four years at NCHS>
Freshmen learned how to explore the amount of time they spend on their devices and which apps consume their attention. It's a good idea to set goals of limiting that device time during the school year.
Mr. Miller was in his element (pun intended) when speaking to the freshmen about math during the Academic Integrity session.
THE FRESHMEN ACADEMY WOULDN'T BE SUCCESSFUL WITHOUT OUR SENIOR PEER MENTORS.
These senior leaders willingly cut their summer break short by one day to attend, participate, and lead.
Meredith, Anna, and Heather (above) and Calvin and Addison (below) demonstrate how to remind a friend to maintain his / her academic integrity.
Seniors Will, Evan, Isaac, Ethan, Griffin, and Brance were all smiles with the freshmen.
Seniors Chloe, Anna, Mia, and Quentin enjoyed meeting their freshmen.
Seniors Brynner and Samuel happily helped Mrs. Sennholtz on her Main Entrance motivational display.
One key to success is good communication. Together with their senior peer mentors, freshmen worked together to move their tablecloth as a group.
Teamwork and communication go hand in hand. This cup stacking game also encourages students to work together to know how much tension to put on the moving equipment and cups.
THE FRESHMEN ACADEMY WOULDN'T BE SUCCESSFUL WITHOUT OUR ADMINISTRATION, FACULTY, AND STAFF.
The teachers dedicate time to developing relevant sessions to not only acquaint the freshmen with NCHS policies and structure but also to help the freshmen continue to develop into lifelong learners.
