"Saw" You At The Pole
What a joyous event that took place on Wednesday, 9/25/24 when NCHS faculty and staff joined together in prayer at the flagpole. Facilitator Mrs. Olson recounted, "we've had See You at the Pole at NCHS for the last several years--I think over a decade now, and this was the largest turn out that Wendy and I recall, with 36 students from both First Priority and FCA attending." Eli Lane from Lighthouse Community Church (below) played the guitar while students and faculty sang along. Calista Harris, also from Lighthouse, and Mrs. Olson made prayer prompts for students who didn't feel confident praying on their own. During the event, the faculty and students sang two songs. They then according to Mrs. Olson "prayed for the school, the students, our sports, our athletes staying injury free, our families, the community, and the nation. Students prayed to be a positive light to the world around them." They concluded with a third song. Also helping to coordinate the event was Zach Davis who serves as the associate pastor at Grace United Methodist Church.
All are welcome to join First Priority on Tuesday mornings at 7:30 a.m. and FCA, which meets on Wednesdays. Join the FCA Google Classroom with the code nyls6rn to stay up to date on all the happenings.

The online store for orders closes on Monday, 9/30/24 so don't miss out.

A common sight during the two lunch periods at NCHS are tables filled with military recruiters. This Thursday, 9/19/24, NCHS was visited by the Army National Guard recruiters.
Sophomore Tori Guinup tried her hand at a simulation activity.

NCHS was happy to welcome back Sophie Schubert, Class of 2023, with the Army National Guard recruiters. During her senior year of high school, Sophie signed up to join the Army National Guard and currently serves as a combat medic. Her rank is specialist. She is a freshman at SIU-Carbondale and is studying radiology. She was happy to return to NCHS and speak with students.

See You At The Pole is a global day of student prayer. It began in 1990 as a grass roots movement with ten students praying at their school. Decades later, millions pray on their campuses on the fourth Wednesday in September. This annual student prayer rally at the school flagpole before school is used to lift up friends, families, teachers, school, and the nation in pole. The event is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event.
Nashville High School will observe this year's event on Wednesday, September 25, beginning at 7:30. All students and staff are welcome to join.

The Angel for Autism 5K celebrated its 15th Anniversary this year with a new location and a new idea: a glow run. With a record 414 people pre-registered as either runners, walkers, or silent walkers, and more registering the evening of the race, the need for as many hands available was great. This year, 33 NCHS students volunteered their time to make this event a success. Students helped with set-up, registration, face painting & temporary tattoos, as guides on the course, at water stations, and with clean-up. Some of these students even double and triple shifts.
Angel for Autism began as a way to honor the life of Traci Storey, who was ready to begin her career working with students on the Autism Spectrum. The organization works with schools and other organizations to create sensory rooms for students with developmental disabilities. The ripple effect of donating their time to this one event will travel to countless students, teachers, and families for years to come.
Jadyn, Aubrey, Parker, Belle, and Adi greet those who pre-registered and hand them their shirts and bib numbers.
As one of his many tasks for event set up, Samuel helped Angel for Autism leaders Casey Senior and Dawn Lietz cut apart glow in the dark temporary tattoos.

BEST Thursdays are every student's favorite day where they have a 9:10 a.m. late start. NCHS faculty and staff, however, use those mornings to become the BEST in so many areas. Thursday, August 29th, was the annual First Aid training where Nurse Melissa Harriss instructed NCHS teachers on CPR, the Heimlich, allergies, and the use of the AEDs.
Mrs. Spenner practices her compressions.
Mrs. Patton demonstrates the Heimlich manuever on Nurse Harriss.
Interested in learning CPR yourself, view the American Red Cross video above.

A tradition began at NCHS with the Class of 2022 when they wanted to brighten up the hallway with school spirit and decorated it with streamers and banners. Since then each senior class has donated their time in the first days of school to bring that same NCHS school spirit to the masses.
So proud of their Class of 2025.

Speaking of SCHOOL SPIRIT, the Blue Banner would LOVE to feature photos of NCHS students, faculty, and staff displaying their POSITIVE SCHOOL SPIRIT at events. So the next time you are in the stands at a football game or marching band competition, snap a photo of you and your friends. Or when you're packing the volleyball gym, the sidelines of the cross country or golf course, or the auditorium before musical rehearsal, grab your phone and your besties and take a picture. Send those photos to either Mrs. Goostree at mgoostre@nashville-k12.org or Mrs. Kollbaum at skollbau@nashville-k12.org for possible inclusion in the Blue Banner.
Looking for a way to show your NCHS school spirit?
