Year 2 had the BEST day in London on Wednesday!
For some of the children it was their first train ride, their first experience of the underground and their first visit to see the sights in London! It was lovely to see how excited the children were about their day out. We walked for miles (and miles!) and saw some of the most iconic landmarks London has to offer. We saw the guards on their horses at Horse Guard's Parade, we saw where the Prime Minister lives, we saw Queen Elizabeth Tower which houses Big Ben, we saw Buckingham Palace and even a possible glimpse at King Charles! We have been learning about The Great Fire of London in history and looking at comparing where we live to London in geography. This trip really allowed the children to see their learning in real life and they will be able to make more detailed comparisons with first hand experience.
The children's behaviour was impeccable. They were sensible, safe and listened carefully to every instruction. I couldn't be more proud of them! I need to say a massive thank you to the team who made the day possible. Every step of the way they made sure your children were safely where they needed to be.
I'm quite sure there were lots of tired children on Wednesday night, we did over 16,000 steps!
Shoshanna said "It was really fun because I went to London, my favourite bit was going on the train and seeing the King."
Zac said: "THE TRAIN was the best and seeing Queen Elizabeth tower."
Daniel said: "My favourite bit of our trip to London was going on the train and seeing the horses."
Lilia said: "My favourite part of London is Buckingham Palace because the flowers are colourful and the building is pretty."
Year 5 sang their hearts out at Unisong on Thursday. The event, which is provided by the Herts music service, was a true celebration of music. The children learnt 6 songs in their workshop that incorporated body percussion, Bulgarian, a song from the 1920's, a German song, a Canadian song and childhood classic! The children put on a wonderful show at the end of the day and there were smiles from all.
Reception had a fantastic day out at Ruislip Lido!
So many things to do! We had a woodland walk looking at trees, searching for minibeasts and then having minibeast race.
We also played on the huge pirate ship on the beach and then had lots of fun in the splash zone.
A great day with lots of different sensory experiences and I think we even saw the sun ☀️.
As we come closer to the end of term, we are able to plan for September and the exciting changes that it will bring. As part of this, we start preparing for our new classes and how they will be best supported. Teachers have already been busy, meeting to discuss transition and how we can best support all of our children with the upcoming changes; they will meet their new staff in the coming weeks.
We are also very lucky to have a full complement of teachers for September; with the current national shortages, this is becoming more and more difficult. During the Autumn term, we will also (temporarily) be saying 'good bye' to both Miss Webb and Miss Jones, who will be going on maternity leave. We are delighted to be welcoming a new teacher, Miss Lyden, to our school. Miss Lyden will be visiting and getting to know us a little better over the coming weeks.
Although there are occasionally one or two last minute changes, at present in September, staffing will be as follows
Nursery: Miss Archer and Mrs Holmes
Reception: Mrs Wilson, Miss Bolton and Ms Impey
Year 1: Miss Brewer, Mrs Akhtar, Miss Hollis, Mrs Gamage and Mrs Gazzard
Year 2: Mrs Nicholls, Mrs Cambridge, Mrs Armitage and Mrs Levy
Year 3: Miss Lyden and Miss Fraser (Miss Webb will be working with Year 3 too in September)
Year 4: Mrs Barrett (Mon-Weds), Mr Shane (Thu and Fri) and Mrs Jakeman
Year 5: Mrs Lewis and Mrs Thurgood
Year 6: Mrs Ofosu, Mrs Setterfield and Mrs Gazzard
We will continue to have some adults, including Miss Bentley, Miss Jones, Mrs Jessop and Mr Maher, who will work with pupils across the school.

Did you know that your child may be able to receive additional support in school in addition to free school meals, if you qualify for certain benefits?
If you receive any of the following, your child may well be eligible for the Pupil Premium. This provides them with free school meals throughout their time at school, but also a range of additional things in school to help with their learning and engagement. If your child might be eligible, please visit the following site (https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/ufs/HCWH.eb?ebd=0&ebz=1_1717745705707) or speak to the school office who will be happy to help.

New supplier - In order to help you to get the correct uniform, we have recently signed up to a second, local supplier, who will be able to offer uniform at competitive prices. PL Schoolwear has a shop based at Bennetts Gate which we hope will make the ordering and collection process a little easier. We are also still looking into other local suppliers who also may be able to provide uniform in the future.
More information can be found on our school website.
Just a quick reminder, please, to make sure all uniform is clearly named. As the weather gets warmer, we find increasing numbers of jumpers and coats that have been taken off and subsequently lost. We will do our best to return lost uniform if we can see a name. Also, please ensure that any jumpers worn are plain navy blue ones from supermarkets or those purchased from our uniform suppliers. Other jumpers are not part of school uniform.
PE kits - where children are taking part in PE in the hall, we require them all to remove their shoes and socks for health and safety reasons.
Finally, if your child needs to bring sun-cream into school to reapply at break or lunchtime, please send it in a named bag and remind your child that it should only be used by them. Some of our children have allergies or intolerances so we discourage sharing sun-cream.

It was fantastic to see so many of the children dressed in green this week, to mark Clear Air Day and to hear all about the discussions and activities in classes to think about how we can look after our environment. Some classes created pledges as to small things that they could do to use less electricity or to better look after the world around us. Ideas included turning off lights and appliances when you leave the room and scooting to school more rather than driving.
This weekend, have a look around your home. Are there any small changes you could make to help look after the world?
