The Heart Of Roswell Winter Experience was an educational and unforgettable experience. Juniors and seniors from Nardin spent a week at Roswell Park listening to many different workers from different departments, doing both hands-on activities and a lab.
We got to speak with the President of Roswell, Candace Johnson, and heard how she got her position and what her job is like being in charge of all the other departments.
We got a tour of the Resources Center, where patients will go to call for movies to watch or books to read, or even just a quiet space away from their room. We also got a tour of the Roswell Salon and learned about the process of getting a wig. At the salon, the opportunities are endless when it comes to what style wig you want or what color. Being a person with alopecia and having lost all my hair, the salon is definitely a place where you can feel happy and creative, and I wish it could be something everyone with hair loss could experience.
We got to see the art gallery at Roswell, which is something most people wouldn’t expect there to be. The paintings are made by the workers at Roswell, which I think is amazing.
Something important that Roswell wants for their patients is for them to get an outdoorsy feel when they are in their room all day. They have many windows to bring in light, and they base their color choices of walls and chairs based off of nature colors.
We got to meet with the marketing department at Roswell and see everything that their job entails. They make the commercials for Roswell, and they even let us make our own about our experience that week! Elle Collard and I got to speak for it, and then we watched them edit it in 10 minutes! It was so exciting to see how much fun they have with their job and how creative they get to be.
Being at Roswell made me realize how many jobs there are in a hospital that do not require one to be a doctor. Roswell showed us that the opportunities are endless.
