Nestled in a city buzzing with the hopeful bliss of a new year, Nardin Academy stood blanketed in snow. With Winter Experience in full swing, a majority of students were on field trips and exploits outside of the classroom; the building was relieved of its usual academic commotion.
I had the privilege of spending my Winter Experience at the placid academy, taking part in the Marketing and Communications internship. Working with Misty Harris and Maggie Barnett of the school’s MARCOM department, the students in my group split into three teams to brainstorm a promotional video, compose a newsletter, and create a magazine spread. Partaking in the latter, I worked with fellow seniors Catarina Cercone and Rachel Hanley to produce an excerpt for the Nardin Today magazine. After bouncing off ideas with one another, we settled on the concept of “Unsung Heroes” at Nardin, set to be included in the magazine’s spring issue. Engaging in interviews, writing profiles, and creating a digital mock-up, my teammates and I honed our collaborative and professional skills.
Throughout the week, Harris and Barnett took time to share their stories and experience in marketing with my fellow interns and me. Their insight proved incredibly valuable as they opened our eyes to the diversity of opportunity in the field. Additionally, we also collected social media content from the other Winter Experience groups in the school, including the Earnest Bean Café and NardEn Vogue.
I am incredibly grateful for the experience I had working with the MARCOM department that week. Harris and Barnett were nothing but gracious and supportive, and I formed an enhanced appreciation for their tireless efforts to help run our school. Additionally, I felt I had the opportunity to explore more than one Winter Experience, as interviewing and collecting content from other programs allowed me insight into their activities and accomplishments.
