The Bills Mafia was crushed as a tight game came to an end with a victory from the Kansas City Chiefs over the Buffalo Bills on Jan. 23.
The game had been close the entire time, with several surprising touchdowns from both teams in the last quarter. Gabriel Davis, wide receiver for the Bills, played a phenomenal game, catching a playoff record of four touchdowns. Three touchdowns had been scored in a 101 second span, the last of which was scored by the Bills with 13 seconds left, pushing them three points ahead. Unfortunately, it was not enough to win, as the Chiefs scored a field goal and the game went into overtime.
Overtime possession, to the outrage of many fans, was decided by a coin-toss won by the Chiefs. Following the trend of multiple consecutive scoring drives, the Chiefs scored a touchdown, thrown by quarterback Patrick Mahomes to tight end Travis Kelce. The final score was 42-36.
The Bills were only two wins away from another shot at a Super Bowl after the infamous Four Falls of Buffalo, when the Bills made it to the Super Bowl four times in a row, from 1990 to 1993, and lost each time. Super Bowl dreams were once again crushed.
Fans, however, were certainly happy to see the Chiefs defeated in the AFC championship game versus the Cincinnati Bengals, who will now head to the Super Bowl where they will face the NFC champions, the Los Angeles Rams, on Feb. 13, 2022.
