Do you always feel like you have too many dresses in your closet, don’t wear them anymore, or just need to get rid of them for more space? Well, lucky for you there is an answer: Nardin’s Go Green Club is having a prom dress drive!
Go Green Club is collecting prom dresses for the Colvin Cleaner’s organization. Colvin Cleaners is a dry cleaning company in Western New York, and they gather donated prom dresses year-round for high school students who cannot afford them. Colvin Cleaners tailors each student’s donated dress for free.
Ava Steiner '22, the president of the Go Green Club, is running this drive to help reduce unnecessary waste, one of the club’s main goals, while simultaneously benefitting students in need.
“Textile waste is a really big problem in the US, especially with the shortening trend cycles magnified by fast fashion companies, and prom dresses are typically a one-time-wear item,” Steiner said. “If we are able to reuse prom dresses and at the same time provide a special high school milestone for free, I think that would benefit the environment and students in need.”
To donate a dress, there will be a bin outside of Nardin’s dining hall where you can drop it off. The drive will end on May 20th, so don’t forget to donate a prom dress!
