Lily Katra '25 & Georgia Kwietniak '26 ~ September 2024
Nardin kicked off homecoming weekend this year with our annual lip-sync battle on September 27! All of the houses brought the energy this year, performing themes from the presidential debate to the hit TV series, Love Island. Delaware opened the show with a sense of patriotism, right on theme with this year's walkathon: Walking Across America. Cleveland took us from region to region with songs to represent each part!
This lip-sync battle has been described as one of the “Best yet.” However, only one house could reign supreme: Elmwood! I spoke with Sienna Hoffman ‘26 and Gianna Forenzo ‘26, both members of House Elmwood, about what inspired them with their theme of love: “The house realized that Love Island is very popular in the media right now and would really connect with the audience.” Since love is a common theme in music, they knew that they could find songs that would bring together the entire crowd, including the judges. Before the winner was announced, Tudor’s futuristic presidential debate appeared to be a fan favorite, with many teacher features and theatrical facial expressions, but in the end Elmwood’s electric performance won the battle, a redemption from last year as they won enough house points to put them at the top of the leaderboard!
Walkathon 2024 took place after the lip-sync battle. The energy continued out on the streets as we “Walked across America,” also known as the Elmwood Village. The perfect weather was another added bonus to the phenomenal day. We ended with cookie sandwiches, pizza and a noon dismissal - who doesn’t love that? If students’ feet didn’t hurt enough from all the walking, the next day was filled with the powderpuff football games and the Homecoming Dance. This week was one to remember, as students came together and showed beautiful school spirit!
