The trek up to the second floor is rewarded by the art room. A multitude of elective options, encouraging teachers -- Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Moran-- and welcoming artists create our nook where students are free to discover themselves.
If you don't believe it, hear it from the students. Our gifted AP Art students, PJ Phelan and Jax Magyari, claim that “the art room is genuinely one of our favorite places to be”. Natalie Huber expresses that Advanced Clayworks is an “environment where everyone is encouraged and supported to work on anything they’re interested in” and notes how the freedom of the class allows students to interpret assignments in their own imagination. The creativity that blooms from the art room is obvious. Peers, mentors, and art pieces foster the domain of artistry, capturing the talent our students hold.
All students are encouraged to utilize the space as their own safe space, but it gets out of hand when that privilege is abused. PJ and Jax express their concern over the misuse of the art room: “While it is a very welcoming space, people should also be mindful because once people start hanging out there that aren’t there for art, it becomes polluted and harder to work on the task we have. You are welcome at any time, but if someone needs their space to work please be mindful of them :)”.
Again, the art room is a space for all, not just one type of person. It is open to everyone’s creativity and we have to be conscientious of that. Everyone needs to respect the art room so it remains a safe space. We have to appreciate the privilege of being able to use it and keep in mind the artists at work when we visit it.
