Spot Coffee on Elmwood is primarily filled with Nardin High School students on weekday mornings.
Nardin junior Mia Dzambegovic says she runs into the coffee shop almost every morning due to a need for caffeine and Spot’s convenient location.
“I wouldn’t even know of Spot if it wasn’t down the street from school, and now I walk there every morning I have time,” Mia says. “I live in East Aurora so the commute is far, and that leaves me no time to prepare my own coffee.”
Due to COVID-19, Mia and other Nardin students have missed out on the school’s traditional bonding experiences, therefore forcing them to be creative to try and make new friends. Mia claims she bonds with some classmates over their shared love of Spot.
“I see too many Nardin girls in Spot before school,” Mia says. “It is fun, though, because it makes me feel as if Spot is our special place and I like seeing these people outside of class. Also, I built better relationships with a few girls in my grade because we started walking to Spot together almost every morning-- we actually call ourselves coffee buddies.”
Mia uses Spot as a place to study during her free blocks because the coffee shop provides many tools necessary for work such as free WiFi, outlets, comfortable places to sit, and pleasant music.
“I almost never enter the building before nine when I have first free because I like Spot so much better than a classroom, really because I would rather sit on a comfy couch than a tiny wooden desk,” Mia says.
Going to Spot in the morning is beneficial, Mia adds, due to the fact that it supports an Elmwood business and the coffee’s quality is top notch.
“I usually see roughly the same Nardin crowd in Spot every morning but I am beginning to see more and more freshmen,” Mia says. “I like to see them trying it out and bringing their friends because it reminds me of my friend group during our first year. I just love Spot and cannot wait to spend more time there this year.”
