Adeline Williams '26 ~ March 2025
Asking Buffalo native Addisyn Logan how she would describe her music, she responds “sad girl pop,” without any hesitation in her voice. Inspired by influential artists ranging from today’s Lizzy McAlpine to classic Fleetwood Mac, the rising artist has been finding her own unique sound while incorporating beloved elements of the sad girl pop genre people know and love. Fresh from a breakup and moving back into her childhood bedroom in 2020, Logan had plenty of angsty yet heartbreaking ballads bubbling up inside of her in this new stage in her life; she found songwriting to be an outlet to express how she felt in trying times. She expands: “Music was like an open diary for me and writing about sad things has helped me get over sad situations.” Like many, Logan finds music to be a comfort. With each word she jots down for a song, she is one step further along in her process of solving the difficulties thrown her way.
Working on perfecting her craft, Logan has been listening to music with a unique perspective, trying to pinpoint what about certain songs she likes. She found herself liking what she was writing, but did not think she would have listened to similar songs. Acknowledging this, her goal has been to write more music that she herself would reach for out of the cornucopia of songs released in this day and age. After listening to countless interviews and podcasts from songwriters she loves (with some suggestions from her podcast-loving dad), she incorporated fresh ideas into her music. Writing music she truly loves, Logan has now released two incredible songs in the past year. With raw lyrics and cathartic melodies, her singles “i hate ur guts” and “i can’t beg” are both worthy of your sad girl pop playlists.
