Week 2
Week 2
Nature Journal
Nature Journaling is a practice of exploring and documenting what you see in nature. It is a great habit for folks of all ages to use throughout your life. It helps us to connect with nature and can be done by anyone at any age.
Week 2: This week we'll be exploring some easy types of nature journals that you can create.
We'll also get started on how to use your journal.
A nature journal can be any size, shape, or thickness that feels right for you.
Size: Your journal should be a size that you can easily take on the go, but still give you enough room to draw and write. You could make a small pocketsize book, or some people prefer a 7" x 9" size journal, to have a larger area for drawing and writing.
You can also fold a full sheet of regular copy paper in half and have a book that is 5-1/2 x 8-1/2". You could also create a journal from a full 8-1/2" x 11" page, but it might not be as convenient to carry along on adventures.
Cover: A hard cover makes it easier to write and draw when you're out exploring.
If the cover is too floppy, you might need a clipboard or piece of cardboard as well to have it be sturdy enough.
Here is a great introduction to nature journals with John Muir Laws, including some tips that will help us when we start journaling.
We'll be using more of his amazing resources throughout the weeks ahead.
