This course is geared toward the serious art student with an interest in learning more about drawing. The focus is on artistic observations, techniques in graphite, colored pencil, pastel, charcoal, and ink. Assignments may include portraits, figure drawing and still life. This course is an important step for students considering additional art courses.
Note: Students who plan to take Drawing 2 during their
Sophomore year are encouraged to take another art class
Their freshman year in order to complete a full year of art
Education.
This course is taught at an intermediate level and expands upon many of the skills and techniques that were learned in Drawing 1. Students are challenged with more advanced technique work, compositional rules, the elements and principles of design and creative problem solving. Assignments may include portraits, still life, mixed media, gesture drawings and experimental technique work.
Prerequisite: Drawing 1
This course is taught at an advanced level and challenges students in all aspects of their drawing abilities. Expectations include creativity, works based on themes, and putting voice to their work all while executing exemplary technique. This course is similar to a college level course and is a good stepping stone for the student thinking about a career in the visual arts.
Prerequisite: Drawing 1 and 2
This course is for the student interested in drawing, cartooning, animation and illustration. Students will build upon the techniques and theories learned in Drawing 1 and Drawing 2. Students will learn the basics of cartooning, illustration, animation and digital media to create skilled works with individual voices. The class is meant to give meaningful skills in commercial art categories like illustration and animation, thus the name Visual Storytelling. Students will create imagery using drawing skills as well as graphic design, typography, illustration, and image creation with digital tools and computer technology.
