RESUMES are required for Districts!!!
COMPUTERS (updated 10/1)
Students MUST provide computers if needed for contests!!!
Watertown School District has gone completely 1-to-1 Chromebooks!!! We no longer have any computer labs with towers available for anyone to use. So for those contests competing with computers, all schools will need to bring their own towers or laptops for students to use to compete with. (i.e., Technical Drafting - we no longer have a computer lab or available computers for students coming to compete from other schools to use here).
We do have available wifi for computers to connect to when here.
*******************************************
PHOTOGRAPHY (updated 11/13)
Students will need a computer with image editing software installed that can be connected to Watertown's WiFi.
Students will need to bring a camera. Students will be taking photos as the event as well as using Adobe Photoshop to create various designs.
Students will need to bring two Theme Photos (2) for Districts
ONE printed 8x10 matted photo - open theme
ONE printed 8x10 matted photo - Theme of "Ignite your Potential"
Both prints are physical printed (your photo lab at school OR walgreens, etc is acceptable.
These photos are done ahead of time and brought to districts to be presented to the judges.
Photos can be Black & White or Color - students choice.
These photos need to be mounted to a photo mounting blackboard - similar to these.
*******************************************
TV (Video) PRODUCTION (updated 11/13)
This will be a strictly editing only event. Students/schools are responsible for providing their own computer/editing software, as well as audio recording equipment if planning on using a voice over.
Teams will be given footage at the start of the contest. The Tech Chair will tell the teams what their "topic" is for the video at the start. The team will have their contest time to edit and export a finished video by the deadline.
No video recording equipment is needed on site.
Bring your own Computer with Editing Software that can connect to Watertown's WiFi and anything else needed for that (i.e., thumbdrive, headphones, etc.)
*******************************************
CNC MILLING (updated 11/13)
Students will need to bring a computer with software for CAM of their choice, and ability to get on Watertown's WiFi if needed to access their software if not on harddrive. This will be a CAM only contest for Districts - we will not be making parts on our CNC's for the contest.
UPDATE 12/7:
I just spoke with the Tech Chair - students will need to model the part in order to code it - students will NOT be provided a 3d model, rather just a print with dimensions. Students can use CAD or CAM software of their choice to model/program this part. (still not making the part on a cnc - simulate only)
*******************************************
JOB INTERVIEW (updated 11/19)
Students will NOT be turning in a Portfolio for Districts. Students will be filling out a generic job application, and performing the job interview in front of judges.
*******************************************
CABINETMAKING (Updated 11/19)
Tooling list to bring... Sander, Drill, Torx T-25 Bit, Counter Sink Bit (1/4"), Try Square, Framing Square, Tape Measure, Clamps, Jig Saw
NOTE: IF students prefer to drop their tools off in the lab when they arrive vs drag through the school - this is allowed. West side of WHS - Door D4 - just pull, there will be a magnet in the door... This is the woods lab. Cabinetmaking and Woodworking Display are sharing this space, you can drop tools/boxes/buckets/etc in the lab on the worktables when you arrive. Schools still NEED to register up front and attend opening ceremonies - just because you can drop stuff does not exempt you from the normal start of event activities - thank you for understanding.
*******************************************
WOODWORKING DISPLAY (Updated 11/19)
NOTE: IF students prefer to drop their displays off in the lab when they arrive vs drag through the school - this is allowed. West side of WHS - Door D4 - just pull, there will be a magnet in the door... This is the woods lab. Cabinetmaking and Woodworking Display are sharing this space, you can drop your displays in the classroom connected to the woods lab when you arrive. Schools still NEED to register up front and attend opening ceremonies - just because you can drop stuff does not exempt you from the normal start of event activities - thank you for understanding.

WELDING (updated 11/20)
Students will be using Miller Multimatic 215 welders on site at Watertown HS. I do not know what processes will be used in the welding competition, however I am linking some videos for students to become familiar with our welders before arrival.
SMAW Setup (created by Mr. Domer) YouTube
GMAW Setup (created by Miller) YouTube
GTAW Setup (created by Miller) Youtube
NOTE - Gas lines are already plumbed into all 14 welding booths, students just have to turn the gas valve on 90 degrees in the booth for the proper gas they want and adjust the flow valve if wanted. GMAW is C25 gas. GTAW is Argon 100% gas.
Welding Tools: Each booth is stocked with, chipping hammer, normal pliers, yelpers pliers, wire brush, welding magnet (used), vicegrip style c-clamp.
PPE: Watertown HS has gone to a 1-to-1 style ppe setup for each student in classes, so we no longer have any generic shop use PPE floating around. All our Helmets and Gloves are in student lockers assigned. Please bring your own Welding Helmet, Gloves and any other PPE you desire/need.

WELDING FABRICATION (updated 10/15)
We are partnering with Bobcat in Johnson Creek for this contest at Districts. They will be supplying a print and material for one of their sub-assemblies they already make on an existing product!!! More details/timeline will come out soon, but for now.
We will need to make arrangements for pick-up of precut materials for the sub-assembly. Bobcat might do a whirlwind tour with their logo truck to deliver but not sure they will get everywhere. So note we may need to work this out.
Final welded product will be brought to districts and loaded on a trailer outside the main school entrance. When Opening Ceremonies ends - students will be bussed down to the Bobcat plant for their contest where they will get their weldment 3d scanned and scored, along with a short presentation judging, along with seeing where their product goes on an existing Bobcat equipment... Students will return by closing/awards ceremony to WHS by school bus.
UPDATE 11/22:
WELD BLUEPRINT is here (pdf) - you can print it off and start marking it up, reviewing questions...
VIRTUAL MEETING (Optional): Students and advisors are invited to a virtual meeting to discuss the print and part with Bobcat and the Tech Chair on Monday, December 2nd from 12:00 - 12:45pm. I realize this is during the school day so if you can not attend - we plan to record it and upload recording here. Google Meet Link HERE
STEEL READY 12/2: Bobcat will have the metal all cut and ready for delivery or pickup on Monday, December 2nd... TEACHERS - please reach out to Mr. Domer to talk about how we are getting stuff to you or you to us for the Metal. (Students do not have to cut or supply any metal for Districts). Domer Cell 920-219-2922 (text/call - no voicemails)
PROCTOR & TIME: (a) Teams MUST be Proctored (Observed by an adult) the entire time they are working on this contest in their school. The proctor can be any adult including your SkillsUSA Advisor or Teacher. (b) We do want you to tell the judges how long you spent from start to finish on the project BUT we are NOT limiting the amount of time you can spend on this project - but know you do not get extra material.
UPDATE 12/2:
3D Scan Printout of a deck (pdf)
VIDEO RECORDING from 12/2 here
UPDATE 12/4:

PREPARED SPEECH (updated 11/18)
The SkillsUSA competition theme for the 2024-25 school year is:

3D PRINTING (updated 11/19)
SEE THIS DOCUMENT for the contest - good luck
*******************************************
ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING (updated 11/19)
NO pre-work for Districts... Teams will have a "Design Challenge" on site at Districts. With time limitations, there will be no printing of 3d printed parts for districts (sorry). But students will need their computers, with access to CAD Software as well as their Slicing Software of choice. End product will include showing CAD models to judges of their solution, as well as how the part(s) are orientated in the slicing software and estimations of material usage.
*******************************************
SCREEN PRINTING (updated 11/19)
Students will be making a screen at their schools and bringing it print ready to Districts. See below for a general info sheet, as well as the design students are supposed to make into a screen.
*******************************************
TEAMWORKS (updated 11/19)
Stations on site will include: an electrical activity, plumbing activity, 3 carpentry activities, and a masonry activity. Each activity is a separate station and teams will complete what they can in the time allowed. Teams will not be physically building a stud wall or structure like state.
Tool List... Basic residential wiring tools of your preference, Basic PVC plumbing tools including drill and bits for 1.5" pvc runs, Basic pouch tools (tape, speed square, pencils, chalk line), Framing Square, Reciprocating Saw, Circular Saw, 2 Saw Horses, Calculator, Basic bricklaying masonry tools (we are supplying mortar and board for all to share), 2 foot level is plenty, Torpedo level. Watertown SkillsUSA will be supplying consumables needed for your competition.
NOTE: teams may bring more tools than the list if wanted, trying to allow you to keep to what you need vs bring everything like state. Watertown likely has some stuff if you forget something as well.
NOTE: IF teams prefer to drop their tools off in the lab when they arrive vs drag through the school - this is allowed. West side of WHS - Door D7 - just pull, there will be a magnet in the door... This is the metals lab. Teamworks and Welding are sharing this space, teamworks will have the open bay and can drop tools/boxes/buckets/etc in the open lab area when you arrive. Schools still NEED to register up front and attend opening ceremonies - just because you can drop stuff does not exempt you from the normal start of event activities - thank you for understanding.
