Did you know that by 6th grade, chronic absenteeism (missing 10% of the school year, or approximately two days per month) is a strong indicator that a student may be at risk of dropping out of high school?

Last year, 18.34% of our middle school students and 21.26% of our high school students were considered chronically absent. It is important to note that both excused and unexcused absences count toward chronic absenteeism.

To support improved attendance and academic success, students who accumulate five or more unexcused absences in a semester will be placed on an Attendance Intervention Plan (AIP). As part of the plan, students will be required to attend two hours of after-school attendance recovery for each unexcused absence beyond the fourth absence. For example, a student with six unexcused absences would be required to complete four hours of attendance recovery.

Please note that this is a change from last school year. Students who do not successfully complete the requirements of their Attendance Intervention Plan will receive a failing grade in all courses for Term 2 (Semester 1) or Term 4 (Semester 2), as applicable.

Yearbook distribution will look a little different this year, so please review the pickup schedule below to make sure your student gets their copy!

Pickup Schedule:

Grades 10–12: Distribution will take place on Wednesday, 9/9 during Class 3 in the cafeteria.

Grades 7–9: Distribution will take place on Wednesday, 9/16 during Class 3 in the cafeteria.

Class of 2026 Graduates: If you were not able to pick up your yearbook on Back to School Night, please email Mrs. Blumenthal at jblumenth@mywcps.org to arrange a later pickup date.
