Mr. Gonzalez

Choose Where to Go Next!

This upcoming school year is my 10th year of teaching.

I have a bachelors degree in grades K-6 from Southeastern University. I am certified to teach grades K-6. I am also certified in English for grades 6-12. I also have ESOL endorsement and reading endorsement.

I enjoy spending time with my family. I was the first in my family to graduate high school with a diploma, and I was the first in my family to go to college and receive my education degree/certifications.

I believe that teaching in the primary grades is my calling. This upcoming school year will be my eighth year teaching second grade at Combee (CODE Academy). I love teaching second grade. To me, it's one of the most important grade levels. I work with a great staff and administration. I have a wonderful second grade team that is very hard-working and dedicated in helping our students soar into the next grade.

Classroom Expectations:

  • Follow directions quickly.

  • Listen very carefully to the speaker.

  • Always stay on task.

  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

  • Be respectful and kind to others.

CHAMPS:

  • Conversation levels are 0 (silent), 1(whisper), 2 (partner talk) 3 (whole group talk). We usually stay between volumes 0-2. Sometimes we might have volume 3 level.

  • Help can be given by raising your hand, or asking three group members before you come to me (the teacher).

  • Activities are how you are completing a task. That could mean listening to the teacher. Working on a writing assignment. Working on a reading task. Working on a math task. Or working on a science task.

  • Movements are done with permission (if the teacher is teaching), or moving to an area, or moving to get supplies.

  • Participation is when you are working on your assigned task and getting it completed.

  • Success is when we get the job done. We have met our goal.

Classroom Procedures: (There may be more that is discussed in class, but these are our main procedures that you are expected to follow.)

  • In the morning, get your breakfast in the cafeteria before you come in the classroom.

  • Set your backpack behind your chair.

  • After you get in the classroom, put on your school badge, choose your lunch for today, and eat your breakfast. When you are done with your breakfast, throw it in the small trash can that is near the sink.

  • In the morning, you may sharpen your pencils as soon as you finish your breakfast.

  • In the morning, when you are done with your breakfast, update your book box. Keep books in your box that you haven't read. Take out books from your box that you are done reading. Add new books to your book box. Make sure all books interest you, and are within your reading level.

  • Return all classroom library books into the Book Return crate so they can rest for a few days before they go back on the shelves.

  • Use your classroom signals for asking to get water (W signal) or going to the bathroom (R signal).

  • When using the bathroom, always keep the bathroom clean. If you make any messes, please clean it up. Wash your hands in the bathroom. Use just a drop of soap. Throw paper towels in the trash can, not on the floor.

  • Make sure you wash your hands for 20 seconds! Sing the "Happy Birthday" song in your head or since your ABCs in your head to let you know the length of how long to wash your hands.

  • When using the classroom sink/water fountain, always clean up water that goes onto the counter.

  • You may refill your water bottle by using the classroom water fountain. Please don't drink from the water fountain using your mouth. Only use it to refill your water bottle. Always clean your water bottle at the end of the day, when you go home.

  • Keep your table area clean. Pick up pencils that drop. Keep your backpacks behind your chair. Throw away trash. Keep your table clean. Make sure all folders and journals are inside your personal area.

  • When using dry erase markers for your white boards, always keep the cap closed on the marker unless I, your teacher, tell you to use them. Never use up the marker's ink by drawing things on the white board that you're not supposed to write or draw.

  • Always clean up centers and manipulatives before moving to a new task.

  • When traveling to specials, media center, cafeteria, or other classes, always be on zero (your voice), look forward, and walk in a straight line. Imagine you're in an invisible car and you're driving to a location.

  • At the end of the day, clean up your area (put things away, pick up trash) and wait to be dismissed to your area.

  • During dismissal, walkers and van daycare riders will wait until they are called on the intercom.

  • During dismissal, bus riders will wait to hear the color of their bus and grade level.

  • During dismissal, car riders will wait to see their car tag number on the screen and then they will go to the car rider gate, where their car is waiting for them.
