OAA Mustangs!
With us being well into the school year it is a joy to see our students thriving academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Daily staff and students one in the same are striving for excellence. From the classrooms to the fields and courts, the creativity, energy and dedication of our young people continue to inspire us.
As we move forward in this quarter, we encourage you to remain engaged. This can be if you are cheering from the sidelines and the stands, volunteering at school events or simply checking in with your student about what they are leaning. Every moment of support makes our bond as Mustangs stronger.
Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of helping shape the leaders f tomorrow. Together, let's keep pressing toward the mark, always allowing our faith in God and purpose guide us.

Blessings,
The OAA Administration
The 2024–2025 yearbooks are tentatively scheduled to be ready by mid-November. Production was delayed due to photo collection and layout development; however, progress is moving forward. Photos taken by Mr. White have been shared to assist with completion, and Mr. Leftridge and his team are meeting soon to finalize the remaining details. We’ll keep you posted as we get closer to the release!
Staying in the know just got easier for grades 9-12! The High School Information Station has been created and displayed in the hallway of the HS building, designed to keep both students and staff up to date. Here you'll find class spelling words by grade level, the FLEX 55 guide, ACT dates and so much more.
Special kudos to Mr. Matos for his creativity and commitment to bringing this vision from concept to reality. His efforts ensure our Mustangs have the tools and information to stay informed and succeed.

Capturing this years theme Year of the Gentleman in action! Since its start the theme has been coming to life in powerful ways. One of the most inspiring sights on campus has been seeing our young men pause to pray in the halls. These moments remind us that leadership begins with faith and that true gentlemen carry prayer into every space they enter.
This is a friendly reminder that beginning Monday, October 6, students are required to wear their full formal uniforms as outlined below:
Middle School & High School (Grades 7–12): Formal uniforms are to be worn Mondays and Fridays.
Elementary (Grades K–6): Formal uniforms are to be worn on Fridays.
Seniors: May wear their Senior attire on Mondays; however, they must be in formal uniforms on Fridays.
Please note that there are no exceptions to this policy.
For your reference, the Formal Uniform Policy is attached below. We ask for your support in ensuring that your child arrives at school in the proper uniform on the designated days.
We are excited to share the very first issue of the HandS Newsletter! HandS, OAA’s equivalent to a Parent Teacher Organization, exists to strengthen the bond between our school, families, and churches.
The mission of HandS is threefold:
To serve as a source of support to the administration, faculty, parents, and students of OAA.
To bring additional resources into the school through parents and our nine constituent churches.
To foster a caring Christian community of OAA families.
This new newsletter is designed to keep our community connected and informed, highlighting ways we can continue to partner together in faith and service.

At OAA, we believe music is more than just notes on a page; it’s a language that shapes character, creativity, and confidence. Under the leadership of Ms. Minisee, our K–6 students are experiencing the joy of music while gaining a strong foundation in the fundamentals.
From learning tone and pitch to practicing rhythm and discovering how to read sheet music, our young musicians are building skills that will stay with them for a lifetime. Each lesson invites them to listen closely, work together, and express themselves through song and sound.
Adding to the richness of the program, we’re grateful to celebrate the contribution of OAA alum Eleazar Williams, C/O 2023, who has returned to give back to his alma mater by sharing his gift on the keys. His presence at the piano not only inspires students musically but also reminds them of the legacy they are part of and the opportunities that come from nurturing their talents.
We’re excited to see how these experiences will grow into a lifelong love of music for our students. Bravo to Ms. Minisee, Mr. Williams, and our young musicians for making music such a vibrant part of OAA life!
GRANDPARENTS DAY AT OAA
We are excited to invite all grandparents to join us for a special Grandparents Day celebration on Friday, September 26th, from 8:00–10:00 a.m.
This meaningful morning will include student presentations, songs, conversation, and light snacks as we honor the important role grandparents play in our families and community.
We encourage every family to extend an invitation to their grandparents (or special grand-friends!) to come and share in this joyful occasion. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students to show appreciation and spend quality time with those who hold such a special place in their lives.
We look forward to celebrating together!
ALUMNI WEEKEND 2025 RECAP
What an unforgettable Alumni Weekend hosted by the National Oakwood Adventist Academy Alumni Association! From start to finish, the weekend was filled with Mustang pride, fellowship, and memories in the making.
We kicked off with a K–12 Career Day, where students engaged with a wide range of professionals who generously shared their time, expertise, and encouragement. This event was made possible by the outpouring of support from coordinators, volunteers, professionals, and staff. A special highlight was seeing the Class of 2026 shine as ambassadors and debuting their brand-new letterman jackets with pride.
The festivities didn’t stop there! Alumni and friends enjoyed a vibrant Sneaker Ball, uplifting Divine Worship on Sabbath, a competitive basketball tournament, and so much more. During Sabbath worship, a special tribute honored the principals who have served OAA over the last 129 years.
As the oldest historically Black private K–12 preparatory parochial school in continuous operation in the U.S., OAA continues to be a beacon of excellence and faith. That’s truly something to shout about!

SCIENCE FAIR KICK-OFF
We’re excited to begin conversations about this year’s Science Fair in our classrooms! Students will have the opportunity to start exploring topics and developing their projects throughout the school year. This early start means they’ll be well-prepared for presentations early next year.
We encourage you to ask your child about their ideas, spark curiosity at home, and help them see the fun in investigating the world around them.
Together, let’s inspire our young scientists to dream big and dive into discovery! As plans develop we will be sure to keep you in the know. Please stay tuned!
As part of our commitment to keeping students safe, all volunteers working with children on campus or during school events must complete a background check. If you plan to volunteer this year, please be sure to submit your information as soon as possible so you’re cleared before upcoming activities.
Thank you for helping us create a safe and welcoming environment for all students!
Parents, we need your help to bless our teachers with a well-deserved break! Each month, Home & School organizes a Duty-Free Lunch where volunteers step in so teachers can enjoy their lunch period without responsibilities.
We’d love for you to sign up and be part of making this possible. Even one lunch shift makes a big difference! Click/Tap the button below to pick a date and join us in showing appreciation to our teachers.
*Please keep in mind that all volunteers must have a completed and clear background check.*
We are proud to offer a Resident Dance Program housed right here at Oakwood Adventist Academy! Students have the opportunity to explore the art of dance while building discipline, confidence, and creativity in a Christ-centered environment.
Classes take place twice per week, Monday through Thursday, with sessions divided by grade level. Each division is designed to help students grow at their own pace while experiencing the joy of movement and expression.
Whether your child is just beginning or has prior experience, our program provides a nurturing space to learn, develop skills, and shine on stage.
