Supporting LGBTQ Students
Please refer to following resources as a starting point on how to support LGBTQ students and their families. We hope you can use the resources on this page to continue educating yourself and others on best practices to support LGBTQ students.
Consider starting or supporting a Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA)
For younger students and their families:
As part of the OUT for Safe Schools Campaign, 'come out' as an ally at your school
Staff receive in-person or webinar training on how to create supporting and affirming environments for students
Many of these organizations offer trainings and workshops to both students and staff
Consider partnering with an organization to get support for your school's GSA or students
Tip: Consider having printed guides to help inform students and staff on DOE policies
Reach out to the DOE's LGBT liaison (firstname.lastname@example.org) or your Respect for All liaison for more support understanding certain policies.
