Free Tax Prep


This tax season, help your families file taxes for free! There are 3 different organizations offering help to NYC families:

1. The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA)'s sites around the City for free filing.

2. The Food Bank for NYC's VITA Tax services and online filing

3. The IRS offers free e-filing for low-income families

Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA)

DCA will be offering free FEDERAL AND STATE tax prep and filing at various locations across the city! Be sure families know what they need to bring, and where they need to go for the service best suited for them! There are three different types of DCA Tax sites:

In person sites: Sit down with a certified tax preparer. Must make less than $54,000.

Drop- off sites: Drop off documents and pick up the returns later. Must make less than $54,000.

Assisted self-preparation sites: Complete tax return online with help from a certified tax preparer. Must make less than $66,000 AND a vaild e-mail address.


The Food Bank for New York City is offering three ways to get help filing FEDERAL AND STATE taxes for families! They are offering help in 3 ways:

#1: File in Person from now until April 17th (Appointment only). Click here to see locations in all 5 boroughs.

#2: File online through the Food Bank's partnerships with Turbo Tax (if you made less than $33,000) or H& R Block (if you made between $33,001- $66,000).

#3: Find a VITA (Virtual Intake Assistance) site nearest you to drop off all your documents where someone will prepare your tax return for you!


The IRS provides free online filing of FEDERAL TAXES ONLY through their website.
