BAR NUNN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The 2050 community is a safe place to learn, grow, and succeed.

Every Learner, Every Day, No Matter What!

PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES OF

THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

Bar Nunn Elementary School, as part of the Natrona County School District #1, is dedicated to making available a superior quality of education that may be earned by each of its students.  We teach the state and district standards at each level.

The curriculum is a balanced one, based on the best available knowledge that we have concerning learning, child psychology, and the concept of general education.  To help students achieve the standards, Bar Nunn School employs the NCSD curriculum, formative assessments, and instruction tailored to students' unique needs.  Bar Nunn has multiple tutors and other resource teacher who support learning of all students in conjunction with classroom teachers.  Our math resource is the district selected Bridges Math which uses a constructivist mathematics approach based on the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Number Corner Program.  Our Language Arts instruction consists of various resources including the Collaborative Classroom.

Teachers work as a Professional Learning Community to support students throughout their educational journey. Teachers work in their teams to review data and develop appropriate instructional interventions for students. Teams of teachers and support staff meet regularly to discuss student academic and social emotional needs. Staff uses evidence based resources to design support for unique students.

Further, we attempt to provide an atmosphere that will create in the student a desirable attitude toward learning, and to develop a respect and an appreciation for work well done.  We use Conscious Discipline to facilitate positive peer and adult interactions.  Bar Nunn promotes student problem solving, positive relationships, and a sense of belonging.

In addition, we have worked hard to develop our community called ' The 2050'.  Celebrations are a key to our community.  We enjoy spending time with our School Family which consists of students, families, and staff. Monthly celebration breakfasts are a time for the School Family to gather and enjoy time together while also recognizing students who exemplify our character traits each month.

We believe that mastery of the basic elements is essential for participation in the modern world, and that development of ethical and moral values has a function in the school if students are to become valuable, contributing members of society.  We, also, believe after school activities help develop our students and outside interests.  Therefore, we may provide programs such as, Lego League, STEAM Class, Crazy 8's Math Fun, Drama Club, Art / Coloring Club, and Cooking Club.  In addition, Bar Nunn supports students' work with our After School Tutoring Brain Cats and Brain Kittens. The Casper Family YMCA provides after school childcare from 3:30 - 6:00 pm each day. For more information or to enroll, please contact the YMCA at 234-9187.

The students of Bar Nunn Elementary School deserve the best we can give them.  They, in turn, are expected to give their best.  Parents, also, have a valuable role to play in the encouragement and support they lend to their children and to the school.  We welcome parent volunteers and visitors.  Between the school and our PTA we provide several parent and family activities.  These include Bingo for Books, Family Movie Nights, Pictures and Cookies with Santa, and the school carnival. Parent support is a key to our success with students.
