Project WACC aims to spread awareness and raise interest in high school students regarding climate change. As a group of young women passionate about reducing our collective impact on climate change, we strive to spread our passion to other students and promote people to take small, attainable steps toward improving the health of our planet.
In the short term, we aim to bring awareness within our campus to the issue of climate change and to encourage students to advocate for change in their community. By finding engaging ways to introduce students to the topic of climate protection, we hope to be the first to teach some students about our growing climate concerns, or deepen the knowledge other students may already have.
Long term, we hope the exposure of climate change information will encourage our student body to to use their voices as a collective group to contribute to local, national, and global change to better our climate for the future. Through the signing of petitions, writing letters to make changes in our government, and learning about the depth of this problem, students will emerge with a drive to make positive changes in their community.
Our team is composed of students who have all recognized the need for environmental action in our community. We have seen changing weather patterns and learned about the delicate balance of our planet that is being broken. We decided spreading awareness about climate change to our school community would be the best way to make change locally in a place where we could easily monitor the eco-friendly strides being taken. From here, our brainstorming led us to host a climate change fair on our campus to get students excited about learning about the climate, and we refined our mission and goals with later research.
